The Steam Deck has shown me that a trackpad is a necessity for handheld pc gaming and wii emulation. So in my opinion, no way in hell I would buy an ROG Ally. Why spend 800 bucks on a console that you are required to bring an external mouse with you to use when there are competitors that are 100-400 dollars cheaper with a built-in trackpad? Sure the extra performance is nice but most games don't need that extra performance. It's a no brainer to me

I hate when people who don't give a definitive opinion. I would say if it's between the original Steam Deck and Ally X, the Ally X is the clear choice. If it's between the Ally X and the Steam Deck OLED, that's a much harder choice, but I would probably buy the Ally X if I had neither system or the original LCD Steam Deck. I currently have the Steam Deck OLED, and although the Ally X is better, it's not that much better that I'd want to sell my Steam Deck OLED. The SD OLED's scream is great. Battery life is good. Performance is acceptable. Ergonomics are great. I probably won't upgrade again until Steam Deck introduces a variant with the same or better APU than the Ally X (Or if ASUS releases an OLED variant).

You should really try the legion go, its a pretty good device, along with using lossless scaling, it makes playing most games much more enjoyable in handheld devices

ROG Ally connects to the XG mobile (eGPU) graphics card booster, proprietary. Would like to see a comparison on feasibility of connecting Steam deck to eGPU and compare with Ally on XG mobile see which is the best

I absolutely love my ally x. Ive never had a blue screen, never have issues with games and the battery life is pretty good. Plus since it is running windows i replaced my desktop pc with it.(my desktop was pretty old anyway)

I've had the ally for a few months and windows is not that much of a problem.

Can you please make a (non-gaming) PC building guide for mild video editing and multi-tasking that can still some less graphics-intensive games (the most intensive being something like Minecraft with some shaders)?

You’re able to play AAA titles on the steam deck if you’re willing to buy and install windows on a micro SD card and dual boot between steam OS and windows. I’ve been doing that for the three months and it works beautifully
@Isaypreach4 ай бұрын
Is there a tutorial for that?

Just search up how to dual boot windows on a steam deck

What I hate is that so many people talk about anti-cheat games and a lot of them are just sports or shooters. I couldn't care less about those games but I want to know the big games like elden Ring and other games that are process heavy that could cause the steam deck to have issues while the ally x has the ability to run them very smoothly but I cannot find anyone who mentions that type of comparison overall

Steam kinda seems a bit more power efficient. And also have more controlls, especially trackpads which can be set up in tons of different ways making it very flexible even for shooters or big management games. Friend got rog ally recently (not x), I kinda wonder to swap with him for couple days to see difference.

I got my steam deck for $300 when it was on sale so thats the winner for me 😊

I own both but imo the rog ally is amazing. Windows works great for me. There was a time that sleep mode did not work properly but after an update it's been great. Had the same problem with the steam deck though so rog ally still comes out on top

Rog X + Bazzite. This is the way to go, Windows on there was no bueno.

Ally X is basically the OG Ally but instead of having a proprietary eGPU port they switched to thunderbolt 4

I really like the cheaper price of the Steam Deck OLED 😢❤ value for money Babe 🔥

The symmetrical sticks and touchpads are the sole reason I stuck with my OLED. The ally was too uncomfortable for me over long time plays

Gladly I stopped playing games like Cod since Black ops 4. Not interested in online games like before. Steam deck is so perfect for me cause of the operating system. Although I could go with the Rog Ally X when steam releases their OS publicly 😊 why not for the extra power, but honestly OLED is something else.

I moved from steam to ROG Ally since it came out and never had any issues. specially getting so many free and cheap games on other stores i.e EPIC was a breeze. def not regretting selling my Steam deck.

I got the legion go, I traded it for a 3090, but my review of it was: it's pretty decent I just don't think it's worth getting when you already have multiple gaming PCs. Your brain is already used to higher quality gaming experiences and then downgrading to something like that makes it harder, also the shape of the controllers are kind of awful, It made me play a lot of games like really badly and then whenever I used my Xbox controller I instantly like had a like almost a hundred percent improved experience. I'm pretty sure I would enjoy a steam deck a lot more. Hearing about the ROG Ally X sounds like it would have been a lot better to get, but I still want to wait until we have higher quality handheld gaming ones. I might just wait till I can get some money and get a steam deck because even if you can't have all of the other games, It still seems like one of the best ones. My reasoning for that is: A lot of the games that steam verifies that it'll play on it steam deck, Play really well on the steam deck. Also you can get lots of emulators, so there's the potential for just emulating certain games that you can't play normally... Either way, I just think the steam deck would probably be one of the better options because they try and make sure the games can run on it properly and then will literally tell you if it can run on the steam deck or not

I have a ryzen 7 7700x. I play minecraft on shaders. What is a good gpu for my build? I have 3 decisions. The rx 7800xt, rtx 4070 ti, and the rtx 4070 super. Btw I built my own pc at 12. Im subbed btw. Ur the goat.

I tried a demo Ally on a store back then and it was quite a hassle to control, i think the same can goes to Ally X also. Imo the current design and usability of Windows OS are not really user friendly without mouse or even touchpad.

Want the price but also full compatibility? Just get the Steam Deck but install Windows on it, Valve provides Windows drivers as well anyways

With the price alone, the debate is over

My issue with the ROG Ally X is that it has no touch pads, no touch sensors on the control sticks (which are essential for flick stick, and once you get used to flick stick you never want to go back to regular aiming controls) and it only has 2 back buttons. That's way too many setbacks on controls and for almost double the price.

soon windows might replace kernel level softwares drivers with an api. (due to crowdstrike) if that happens, wine/proton will start being able to translate these api calls, meaning that you might be able to play games with kernel anti-cheat on the steam deck soon.

Im struggling between the two now. Not sure if I should buy in a little cheaper and get the midrange SD Oled and wait for the ally 2 or SD 2. Or just go for the Ally X now and live with the fomo when they release the next gen in a year or two. Sitting down to get some quality time with the pc setup is much harder now that dad life has truly taken over. Joining the handheld life feels like it is a necessity sooner rather than later. lol

And apparently steam is going to make SteamOS available on the Ally sometime soon
