This is ONE OF THE BEST EVER "Steam Heat" performances I've seen since watching Bebe Neuwirth and Ann Reinking do it together at a benefit that was televised on PBS. I believe it was in the late 90's. but these three performers are absolutely brilliant, with the woman in the middle, just totally blowing me away!!! Really, this is a brilliant dance, sing, and comedy number that should be given a Tony and a Drama Desk, it's just so good. Ok. That's about it for now. I'm excited because we rarely get to see true, honest, hard working talent anymore. So it's a real treat when it finds you, or you find it! Steam Heat!!!! Hot steam

“Woman in the middle” is Gwen Verdon. Sheesh, you young folks don’t know your musical theater history

I don’t know why a Fosse choreographed number makes my backbone get shivers, but every one I watch (over and over and over) does it to me.

If that doesn't make you want to practice for auditions then I don't know what will...

Fosse is amazing! I remember this from choir class lol. Chicago is good too, I've seen a couple others of his. I love how good he is with building emotion, sometimes having an eerie feel to it.

In 1964 The Pajama Game was the Senior Class production at the H. Frank Carey High School in Franklin Square, NY. One of the actors was Michael Tucci, who later played Sonny in the movie Grease opposite John Travolta.

I have found a new love for Fosse choreography. Watching so much of his work I am falling in love.So innovative, creative, effervescent, joyful, and unique.

it always makes me think of Michael Jackson, since he was inspired by Fosse. 🙂

One of my favourite pieces of Fosse choreography. Love the step @ 2:13! And I love the woman's expressions, it's funny, but she's enjoying it!

Meg Gillentine is an amazing dancer with a fantastic dancer's body. She absolutely sizzles in Hot Honey Rag in this performance.

I believe the original production of Pajama Game, which Steam Heat is from was in 1954. This clip, I believe, is from "Fosse" c. 2002, which is a compilation of his work.

I mix 1960s music for pre game shoot around for girls' HS and JC basketball. I am gonna try to add just the audio from this to my list of music choices , to see if the girls on the teams and the audience in the crowd will respond/ like/ or dislike it. Trying to present an alternative to the overly loud rap music that you usually hear for this. Wish me luck.

THIS is NOT Bob Fosse's own production!! Bob was passed well before this show// They are great performers and the choreography is close--but BOB FOSSE HIMSELF taught this number to me, and I performed it around the world in the 1970s with Shirley MacLaine who was in the ORIGINAL production!

Sigh. I don't think dancers today can dance Fosse anymore. The control isn't there, stray body parts are all over the place. The wrong moves are emphasized. This piece requires absolute STILLNESS which makes the bigger moves look HUGE.
@mikegiblin15595 жыл бұрын
I disagree. This is the stuff all young dancers go for. (not 'this' but Fosse caliber routines) That's all I see people making audition req's for.
@PetroicaRodinogaster2645 жыл бұрын
if everyone danced the same styles then we would have no where near the variety we have. But that said, I hate modern dance which is just acrobatic moves.

since Michael Jackson is gone, you may be correct. MJ was the last Dance Legend.......I feel like we never got someone to carry the torch and keep it going. 💔

I absolutely agree, today's dancers don't seem to get the true isolations and the compressed feel of 50's jazz style dancing. This version was cute, but the original was utterly cool. It's a big difference.

FACTS about this performance! This clip was taken from the newer FOSSE (THAT was the name of this revue of Bob's work-AFTER HE DIED IN 1985) show and is based on the original number from Pajama Game of 1954--Carol Haney doing the lead--Shirley MacLaine understudy//HANEY broke her leg-Shirley was on for a while THEN //I LEARNED THIS NUMBER IN 1976 FROM BOB FOSSE FOR SHIRLEY'S ACT//

Bob Fosse taught me this dance when we performe it in Shirley MacLaine's show in 1976// This is very close--but still lacks a few KEY moves// Bring me in to show you how to do FOSSE right!! Gary Flannery Bob Fosse's BULL
@kerrytakashi12 Жыл бұрын
The Powers that Be don't want anyone to learn to dance Fosse right. That would take dancers of top caliber who have an attention for detail. They don't want that, they want to pass off mediocrity as sterling talent to make a quick buck. Not even NYCB dances Balanchine correctly anymore. Rubies (I think it was Fosse inspired) is an absolute mess to watch now.

@@pibly7784There are some serious pitch issues that exceed the annoyance due to the squeakiness of her voice. While I do believe some commenters here are correct in noting that the choreography is dynamically not as Bob Fosse would want it, I still think it’s a great dance performance.
