Closure of the Selby-MW line in the mid-1960s meant closure of the line's junction and transfer route to BR, influencing closure of the southern part of the line.

This line and the mkt.weighton to york line would seriously improve conditions too and from york to hull as there are times when the A1079 CANNOT COPE WITH THE AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC ON IT.

Slightly off subject. The Derwent Valley Light Railway co survived the closure of the Railway. Derwent London a large property investment company whose shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange’s and is very much active today can trace its origins back to the railway.

Great! Please let's preserve and not destroy: smallness, futility, inefficiency, imperfection, slowness, uselessness, rust, uncleanliness ........ All these values are beautiful and very human. The opposite values that lead to the closing and destruction of everything are economic. What has economics to do with humanity and human happiness? Nothing in the slightest ......

And if they did buy it, they wanted it at a price that we could make it for in this country (ain't that right, Mr Dyson?). And as for our OP: if you want to keep things, then you have to pay for them and if not enough people are willing to pay for them then they have to go.
