Eureka and Palisade 4-4-0 #4 runs for possibly the last time during the 2012 Railfest on the Durango and Silverton. An authentic 1875 Baldwin built wood-burner, the 'Eureka' was lovingly restored to operation in 1991 by owner Dan Markoff. In 2013 the locomotive will be due for its FRA 15 year / 1472 day inspection and may not operate in Colorado again.

Absolutely! I took my July 2015 vacation in Colorado. I stayed with a friend of mine in Castle Rock, also visited Rocky Mountain National Park, and drove to the summit of Pikes Peak. I wouldn't mind living in Castle Rock, but moving is so expensive.

Oh wow. For such an uneven track, it certainly flies along. It takes that steep mountain gradient in it's stride. Such a beautiful line. I am adding it to my bucket list.

The owner said he let Mick Jagger "drive" this engine and nearly couldn't get him out of the cab he was having so much fun. He advised any steam locomotive owner to be wary of offering Jagger the right seat.

In America the term "Driving" in incorrect in America. It's important to stress the fact that the term "driving" is incorrect. the Engineer "operates" the train is correct

Briefly past 4:53, it's like we are looking at a model train layout then that beautiful sound brings you back to reality. Only the WW&F up a grade makes me think of it.

Just what is it about these old trains that has taken over my life and home.Is it the sounds, the scenery, the history, the look of the incredible engines, the caboose, the crew or is it the childhood memory of the old western films such as "The General,Go west" and of course "Casey Jones" the children's TV series. Now you can't move in my house for train sets, still in their boxes.Retire in about sixteen months, then comes the garden railroad.Rocky mountain style of course and I'm a brit.

Thanks for this demo vid of how period gear ran when the Denver & Rio Grande still owned the Durango-Silverton section; I figured the fireman was stoking the well-worn Baldwin at one moment when the smoke got light, then heavy on the 2.5% grade north of Needleton.

Beautiful song coming out the stack, too. That chuffing is amazing, bugs me when these guys running historic steam locos lean on the whistle like they're trying to play a song on it when the real song's coming out of the stack the entire time the thing's running.
