the vast majority of users do not use steam this way, so it is hardly the key factor in its success. the reason steam is supreme is because they got in the game early, and they have continually provided the largest library of content while their meager competition struggles to entice consumers with small libraries and with no real edge in their service that they can provide to the user over steam. people don't want to install another launcher just to play that one game that isn't on steam.

The bad news is, GOG not making a linux client means that people are not playing going to be playing their GOG games that require Galaxy for multiplayer on a steam deck, and also people are being robbed of options to use things they like as a result. However you feel about linux, it's never a good thing to be robbed of options. Options are the whole reason we use things that aren't steam to begin with. Steam is perfectly serviceable, but if you're using GOG to begin with that means Steam is lacking something you want so you bought a particular game there. It's the same principle for Linux vs. Windows. Windows is perfectly servicable just like Steam is, but GOG has some nifty features just like Linux does.

funnily enough, when people mention the 30% cut Steam gets from being a Dev as a counterpoint especially when comparing it to like Epic's 12% cut, that argument does not cut it when you realize that the 30% comes with stuff that eases and helps a dev create a community for their product and even help in the process of creating content for said product as the dev; that and 30% percent being industry standard but hey. 12% to get your product in the store... and... _checks notes_ Ah yes, have the ability to monitor reviews for the product. Meanwhile, sure they get 30% but I get access to frameworks and a dedicated modding hub? Oo Discussion Boards, Groups, and Guide Boards too? I can grow a community for my product in just one app rather than have it scattered? I don't have to rely on third party sites and softwares to be able to expand community reach? Oh my god they even have a premade support page for general common problems. Also people forget that Steam doesn't only host games; They can host music, videos, art, and best of all, other Software that are not entirely games. Blender, Vegas Pro, hell the one app a ton of people use, Wallpaper Engine, is on Steam as well.

"That one time valve tried to introduce paid mods which backfired" This is actually also a very good thing, because most companies would just see the profit option and say something like "Players don't know what is the best for them" and would try to force the idea onto the market. Valve did not. They understood that this idea was horrible, so they decided to back up from the idea. And, you know, you can't blame someone for attempting to do something new as long as they don't do the wrong thing twice. At least that's what I think :l

ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was the first programmable, electronic, general-purpose digital computer made in 1945. It was Turing-complete and able to solve "a large class of numerical problems" through reprogramming. Although ENIAC was designed and primarily used to calculate artillery firing tables for the United States Army's Ballistic Research Laboratory (which later became a part of the Army Research Laboratory), its first program was a study of the feasibility of the thermonuclear weapon. ENIAC was completed in 1945 and first put to work for practical purposes on December 10, 1945. ENIAC was formally dedicated at the University of Pennsylvania on February 15, 1946, having cost $487,000 (equivalent to $5,900,000 in 2020), and was heralded as a "Giant Brain" by the press. It had a speed on the order of one thousand times faster than that of electro-mechanical machines; this computational power, coupled with general-purpose programmability, excited scientists and industrialists alike. The combination of speed and programmability allowed for thousands more calculations for problems. As ENIAC calculated a trajectory in 30 seconds that took a human 20 hours, one ENIAC could replace 2400 humans. ENIAC was formally accepted by the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps in July 1946. It was transferred to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland in 1947, where it was in continuous operation until 1955.

Great video! One thing that was not mentioned in detail is the Steam store. It is very clear, adapts to your taste and shows you popular games, but also sometimes small games that are mega good. Also it shows user reviews, small videos when you mouse over the game are played, updates from developer that you can follow and much more. In addition, the library is also so very customizable. Custom groups, even dynamic groups, developer updates at the top and so much more. Steam does so many things right and does one thing especially right. You feel comfortable using Steam, not like Epic where you want to close the shit as soon as you pick up your free weekly game.

The thing I hate about epic, is that it takes like 5 minutes to load, while steam takes about 15-30 seconds. Epic also has barely any features other than games, no community interaction, so forum to discuss issues, etc.

@kittenzrulz23142 жыл бұрын
Steam Deck is more portable than the Switch. Both of them aren't fitting in a pocket but while Nintendo expects you to throw a switch in a bag and potentially scratch the screen, Valve includes a carrying case with a pouch for accessories like a charger.

Steam is the best probably because it's one company who refuses to fall into corruption, they started by making games for fun, and made games with true love instead of just making trashy cash grabs. They also listen to the community and have great working conditions. So it's really well deserved to be number 1.

Im sorry but GOG is actually really good. Not on the level of steam but being able to play old ass games without having to patch them is a godsend. Not to mention they have some stuff that isnt even on steam. Like Diablo or first 2 Warcraft games. Granted, if you can't deal with older games you probably dont care about those but to me, as a person who just got interested in playing old games that aren't available anywhere else, GOG is very good.

gotta say, i like your video formula. while i enjoy long stuff, its a bit tiring. meanwhile, i dont short stuff because i can't put it on in the background for a while. 6-8 minutes is like a really nice middle ground, and you can make them pretty easily and upload often with some pretty nice editing. also, if you do eventually upload something super long, it will feel like a special occasion in a way.

While steam is amazing for all its features, it will never match how based GOG is for having no DRM. Also gog is very easy to use and comfortable too. And they have their own unique features on gog galaxy like syncing all your libraries. Plus they give discounts to games sseth asks them to on command lol. I honestly don't get what you have against them.

I fully agree with everything you mentioned in this video and frankly I'm part of the Steam hype train and I was gonna go on and say all about the flaws of scamming yet you also cover that which is cool, but I guess I'm just too baby to hold a steam account because the complexity is its downfall to me atleast, I simply woke up one day barely knowing what year we were in, got a scammy link on discord and i just lost my steam account. Even if I recover it what's the point? I can't know wether those guys removed all my games or not

I don't think they can remove your games, only tradable items like skins in CS:GO
@SkyLike4422 жыл бұрын
Just get your account back with the help of steam support . The scammers can't do anything on your account, can't delete games, can't trade items (7 days hold). Thay can use your steam balance if you have any but you can always get a refund. So there is not point in leaving the account
@funnycatenjoyer27582 жыл бұрын
they can't remove any games and from what i've experienced (as someone who has lost their steam account to a scammer before) steam support is really helpful when it comes to this type of thing the closest thing they can come to deleting your games is that free games can be removed from your account and steam inventory items can be traded away but other than that everything should be intact

Epic Games HAD the biggest potential to be a competitor to steam with the ridiculous amount of fortnite money they have but they just became lazy. Seriously so many basic features are missing from it that I feel like they could make it close to steam if they wanted to in a couple months (this applies only to epic tho since they like throwing money at games and they have near infinite supply it seems).

they do but as someone said upove , steam only charges 30% once your game has hit specific sales numbers, below which theyll charge substantially less while still giving you access to everything steam has to offer. (And while not being much, they dont even charge you anything until you made more money back than the fees for putting your game up have cost you in the first place, but thats only a few hundred anyway.)
