Built in 1944, the 2926 locomotive ran a million miles before retiring in 1953. Lovingly restored by the New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society, her whistle now blows again!

I was born in Albuquerque in 1939, during WW2 my father was a railway fireman here and sometimes very early (dark time) in the am he would take me way up those scary stairs and into this giant fire breathing huffing beast, very exciting l will never forget it. After revisiting her in rebuilt new condition l felt a relationship l felt that this is probably the same one l would visit many years ago.

It is a very impressive machine and with that 16 wheel tender it is unique. Hats of to the New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society for doing such a amazing job.

What a monumental task it is restoring this steam locomotive back to full operation. To all of those people who where a part of this massive restoration my congratulations - job well done! It will indeed be a wonderful day when this steam locomotive finally moves on the high iron under its own power.
