Steam Locomotive 520 Into The Adelaide Hills 1993

Ex South Australian Railways 4-8-4 broad gauge (1600mm) Steam Loco #520 hauls Steamranger Tours "Southern Encounter" train into the hills in 93. Very shaky footage (sorry) by the uploader using a hand held video 8 camcorder. Help restore this locomotive www.fireup520.org/

This is magnificent to see; two of these used to run the hills twice a day to and from Blackwood / Belair when I was a kid. I loved them and so glad they have been maintained for us to see. Now living in WA, I can only see them via these type of video posts.

Wonderful footage of the 520 in the Adelaide Hills. I took this train in 1992 from Keswick in those days to Victor Harbor and return, a long day but truly memorable. Such a pity that the broad guage track was ripped up because I would imagine that if this train would operate for cruise ship passengers each time a cruise ship came to Adelaide taking passengers from Outer Harbor to Mount Barker return it would get full patronage. What a wonderful day it would be for those passengers. And having been on such trains from cruise ships in Alaska and Port Chalmers in New Zealand these type of train excursions are very popular.
