Yeah ? But unlike other countries we preserved our steam locos which now play a part in our tourism trade, where steam trains take passengers on daily trips around the country ! All countries have a heritage, whether it's cars, motorbikes, marine vessels or aviation etc etc. We just happen to take pride as the above comment states.

We invited British engineers in the 19th century and laid a railroad. We also imported small small locomotives and passenger cars like match box from the UK. After that 150 years, the UK bought a high - speed train made by Hitachi, Japan. It is for granted that our bullet train runs in Japan. Hitachi runs in the UK, is the greatest pride. Ladies and gentlemen, Thank you for your guidance so far.

As a kid I was always interested in aircraft, still am. But having watched YT for years, I have found these rail beasts just so incredibly impressive. To be speeding and on the footplate must be one hell of an experience for any man. The last train must have been doing 70/80 mph! Nerves of steel needed! Many thanks for sharing your experiences.

The real problem is the American Railroads scrapped their high-speed steam before preservation groups could really get any traction. I'm sure a Milwaukee Road F7 or A class locomotive, or maybe a NYCRR J3-a would be stiff competition for a British streamliner. But we'll never know...

Even though I've been a subscriber for awhile, I missed these when they first came out. Both are terrific! Every Saturday evening before dinner, my best friend and I sit at the computer, here in Illinois, with our vodka cocktails enjoying one of your steam videos. We marvel at the design and engineering craftsmanship and the raw power of these magnificent machines. Of course, we also enjoy seeing that the Pullman cars, made here in Illinois, were also built well enough to still be in service. Thanks for all the work you do on all your steam videos.

marsvltor2 : The Kings had a special design of front bogie using coil and leaf springs which I believe tempered a lot of the bucking at speed.
@marsvltor2
@marsvltor2 7 жыл бұрын
The 'joggled' front bogie design was to enable Collett to put the largest diameter inner cylinders into the design, which meant that the leading bogie axlebox had to be of an outside design. In their early days this bogie frames had an habit of misbehaving, too...

Rosie6857 as far as i know the diesel trains are there to assist in braking and for the occasion that the loc isnt powerfull enough.
@Rosie6857
@Rosie6857 7 жыл бұрын
The diesel can't be there for braking purposes because if the brakes on the train were inadequate without it the train would not be allowed anywhere near a railway. The use of diesels seems a bit arbitrary. There have been plenty of cases where the steam loco has only just enough guts to keep going e.g. Hemerdon and Dainton West and no diesel in sight, thank God. It may be that the diseasel, snot-box, gronk is there simply for train-heating purposes.

More often than not the diesel is there in case of failure, it means that stock can be moved off the mainline as quickly as possible without incurring the massive fines for causing delays on the national network.

In Slovenia we have quite a lot of preserved steamies all over the country, especially in our railway museum, and only 4 are in working order. They were built in 1920, 1922 1930 and 1964. The first three haul railway museum trains of their own while the 1964 locomotive (painted blue and different colours) runs regular service.

Very good combo. I love the site of these beasties and the sounds too. Especially when the coaches trundle along . Modern stuff have nothing on these machines . Thanks for showing this video. Keep up the good work

Fascinating sequence not least to see just how effectively some locos lift the exhaust up and way clear of locomotive.

When you shoot these things from the front with a super long lens, and the perspective gets squashed, these engines look like they're going about 6 mph.

I always thought steam engines used their whistle just to show off, and rightly so. I recently learnt it was also for safety.
