The steam powered tugboat "Midwest" is seen on Poppleton Creek Park lake in Stuart, Florida on Sunday, June 5th. 2022
The tug is an older Midwest Models kit that measures 19 in. LOA and 8 in. in beam. The installed power is a single cylinder oscillating steam engine, a Midwest Heritage series boiler fired by LPG Butane all driving a single 32 MM, 3 blade R/H cast metal propeller.
The hull is birch plystock frames and balsa wood skinned. The deck house is made of plystock, basswood and mahagony. The funnel and whistle are brass, the navigation lights and spotlight are cast metal.
I was able to increase the pitch angle on the propellers blades which dramatically improved the cruising speed.
