Thank you for your comment. I have since added more cars to the consist making it one of the longest passenger trains in our model railroad club. Knowing that GM&O did not use Vista dome cars, I cut off the dome on my car and fitted a blind panel from sheet brass stock. This paint livery on ths train always draws compliments from visitors.

Nice video. When the GM&O received DL-105's 270 and 271, in 1940 and in crimson and silver they were equipped with a horn and a siren. Also they had them shipped to Mississippi and took receipt of them there to avoid paying higher taxes.

So there are 3 types of DR-6-4-2000. There is the DRX-6-4-2000 (with two cabs at both ends). There is the Babyface DR-6-4-2000, and There is the Sharknose DR-6-4-2000. There are also the Relatives: The Baldwin DR-6-4-1500 diesels, as well as the DR-6-2-1000 Cabbage diesel unit. All in all, they make up the Baldwin DR-6 Diesel Cab Unit Family.

Nice job! How difficult was the build overall?

It is a Dumas kit, the build is not difficult if you pay attention to the mechanical aspects and proper ballasting.

2nd to last car: former dome

You are correct, good eyes! I purchased a Concor 5 car set in GM&O livery about 18 years ago and the dome car was part of that set. The story on this train is interesting. I was originally looking for an ALCO, DL-109 locomotive in New Haven livery. Lifelike, was the only company that produced this model for their Proto 1000 series. However, they did not make the DL-109 in New Haven livery at that time. The model railroad store did have 2 DLs in stock in the GM&O livery and they were beautiful, so I bought them and now I needed to put together a proper passenger train and the Concor set was the starting point for that. Now GM&O did not use dome cars and so I cut away the dome and made a blind plug from basswood. Over the years I have added cars that are appropriate for a long distance passenger train. They are of different manufacturers but work well in the consist. A member of our model railroad club offered to sell me a Proto 1000 ALCO, PB unit in a different livery. Knowing the GM&O did not have any ALCO, PBs on their roster, or DL-109s for that matter ( they bought DL-105s) I thought, why not do an A-B-A lashup on the point. So I gave the PB body to our club Picasso who masterfully painted it. That along with the correct Decoder sound cards the train is now the longest, heaviest and prettiest of my HO trains.

Awesome! Curt was my great uncle. His brother, Johnson was my grandfather. There was the hobo,of course,but also the shearwater,the Gannett,and the Skipper 1&2. VERY cool to see this

Thank you for your comment. John Whiticar was able to print out the HOBOs original sheer line drawings for me in 1"=1' scale. So the hull is exact though I had to use all the photographs I could find for the superstructure and topside details. The boat is now finished right down to the Hobo image on each side of the flybridge.

Summer, 1978 we make it to Paducah and there were about a dozen GMO F3s. Even 811B the only GMO F7. Most of these locos went to MBTA as rebuilt F10s. Made it to Bloomington and there was a pair of F3s still running. This was the end of GMO F units.

How hard would it be to modify this kit to resemble this ship's earlier appearance as the SS Chateaugay. The Chateaugay operated her on Lake Champlain between Vermont and New York and spend her last years at the Burlington boat club before being cut up and shipped (ship shipping pun?) To Lake Winnipesaukee. I'd like to buy the kit online and do a custom build.

This particular model kit would be an excellent starting point if you wanted to modify it to resemble the S.S. Chatauguay. The most important part would be to gather as much photo history as possible to insure accuracy.

Nope! This model appears to be of the original Mt.Washington all-wood steamboat that burned to the waterline in the winter of 1939 while it was tied up at Wiers. The current Mount Washington was made from the hull of Chateaugay just before WWII in Lakeport.

The hull is formed fibreglass, the interior hull structure and the superstructure are basswood and birch plystock. The walking beam assembly is all brass.

Nice looking boat, How long did it take you to build it?
@kevinknoop1790
@kevinknoop1790 3 жыл бұрын
The model is an older Dumas kit that was started many years ago. It has been through a couple of owners none of whom ever finished the build to the point where she was seaworthy. Mackey had always wanted a sidewheeler and when presented with the the opportunity to aquire this one he did. Mackey and I both worked on getting her properly ballasted which, given her very low freeboard, was a challenge. We also added details such as over 100 passengers, stay lines for the masts and funnel. The whistle chain, 4 life boats and davits, life rafts and blacking out the many windows on the superstructure. The average build time for a model like this averages 3 years.

So... is that an Overland, Red ball, or cmrproducts build? My guess, smooth runner so cmrproducts? No windshield wipers, door handles, nor speedometer cables on the truck, which OMI has. Also what sound decoder is installed? Great work and Great paint, real nice video. Thanks for the video.
