War of Rights has a REALLY accurate ballistics system. Evey rifle is zeroed in at 100 yards, but since it's a subsonic projectile, you're going to overshoot anytime the enemy is closer than that, so you have to aim at the belt buckle of the enemy to have a high chance of hitting.

Not to mention that you can literally see the bullets spin in mid-air if you try. Or so it appears.

Unfortunately not a ton of people are interested in civil war era games like this so there’s only ever 1 active server besides events. I've been playing War of Rights for just under 2 years and I've never had a dull moment. The community is small granted, but I think that allows players to form a tighter gaming bond with each other, I see the same names often and just like in normal life, you get talking to each other and start to find other things you have in common. This point is made stronger if you join a regiment, with the same players turning up for big matches over the weekend. I thoroughly enjoy playing this game and although I assumed I would enjoy it for the subject initially, I now enjoy it for the community. 15th Wisconsin "For The Cheese!".

The devs really listen too. I asked them to alter players heights because having all players the same height is unrealistic and reduces immersion. Next patch, they added variable character height. Someone told me that the flag poles were too light coloured and should have some darker lacquer colouring at least sometimes - I mentioned that and they added it.. it's a very slow burn development process so some people get bored with the lack of new things over a long time.. but the attention to detail is amazing and rare in game development. I saw this game thanks to General Cody's kickstarter pre-early access videos and bought it the day it came out in early access. I've played almost 3000 hours. It's a definite vibe.

Those lines on the ground would deffinitely help a lot, even if in a game such as Squad they were not that accurate, or like if it was lines or something that would project orders and each soldier's understanding of what each order means, like almost see through smoke with different colours or just pictograms - it really does make sense as since it is on the ground, it does not obscure your vision. Also, even from watching this game, it felt like that it communicates to the player: "communication, tactical planning, skills and thoughts is what will make you win the game" and it reminds me of how I have read that even in WW1 the engagement distances were pretty close, so I think that this game would work even in WW1 settings - also some player animations were awesome, some were weird, but still, the atmosphere with the gun sounds: that is some dope ass stuff that does NOT SHIT ON THE LINE.

There's a lot of milsim elements, like communication and teamwork and semi-serious RP, but it balances that well with people just playing a game and having fun in a more casual way. Not that there is anything wrong with serious well organized milsim stuff, that stuff is impressive and really entertaining, but it can be very hard to organize, plan and execute. This is a good middle ground. Not a lot of people goofing off and doing their own thing, they are naturally encouraged to just cooperate. I'm sure someone else could put it to words better than I can.

Can’t believe Slorgs has put out a video on one of, if not my favorite game. War of Rights holds a very special place in my heart, as I would have never met some of my favorite people if I had never picked it up. War of Rights is the reason I decided to go to Chickamauga National Battlefield (a 3 and a half hour drive, more for others), just to meet up with some of my friends and explore the area. This dumb Civil War game has made me laugh the hardest in my life, and has had some of the most intense and memorable moments of any game I’ve ever played (Winning Cooke’s Countercharge as the Union for those who know how Confederate biased that map is). Once again Slorgs, thank you for covering this game TLDR: I love War of Rights

Games like this and Holdfast just have a teamplay vibe to them. Your gun is shit and super inaccurate. It takes forever to reload and obscures your vision. This means a few things. 1: There is actually time to meme on people with proximity chat even if you don't have the reflexes of a 15 year old. 2: Sticking with your team and enacting tactics actually pays off as coordinated attacks have a significant impact on effectiveness. 3: Number 2 makes it important to actually make friends and talk to your team so social gaming is encouraged. 4: Because your gun is so shit, the skill ceiling is pretty low. 5: If you're bad at the game you can take on support roles and gain your teams appreciation. Reloading cannons is important work. Playing the bugle is crucial. Being a drummer buffs nearby team-mates. Carrying the flag makes reloads faster, you are actually supporting your team by just standing there. 6: You don't have to have photo-perfect map knowledge to do well, you simply have to follow instructions and hope your commander knows what he's doing. Games like these are a lot of fun in their own right, and everyone should play them.
@Ninja_Gaijin
@Ninja_Gaijin 28 күн бұрын
BUGLE IS NOT CRUCIAL. DRUMS DOES *NOT* BUFF TEAMMATES. You're thinking of Holdfast maybe..? Musicians in this game are USELESS - they are only to relay orders.. which is a waste of a player that could be holding a rifle. If anything, bugles and drums give away your location to the enemy. Please, do not pick musician classes.

I've been a backer of this game since 2015. The progress of this game has at times brought me to tears, because I am passionate for this game. I am a Civil War Reenactor (2nd Maryland Infantry [CSA], Co. A) and wish there were more games like this. Sadly, yes because it's the internet, people are toxic as all hell in this game. But you can tell when you play this game, it's developed with care and heart. It's not the game's fault for being "toxic," the community can be toxic as hell. The best way to truly enjoy this game and avoid a lot of the toxicity is joining a regiment, where they (should) curb that behavior. Plus, regiments take part in organized battles and events, which really makes the game so much fun.

What a great video! You actually take the time to learn the game dynamics and understand the community behind it, not like most youtubers that just take random kids saying slurs in the public servers and use that as a clickbait to frame the game and the whole community as "r*cist" or "controversial". War of Rights only exists because of the community, regiments are literally what gives life to the game. Regiments recruit new players giving them the possibility to play in major community events, participate in drills, meet new people and make friends, which at the end of the day is what makes players spend more time in the game and being active members of the community. Which makes me proud to see my 4th Georgia fellows in this video. I hope you revisit the game soon, maybe in a part two for this video, it would be nice to see you attending a community event with a regiment to show more of that side of the game, is an experience that's worth it.

As a living historian I think this game is very good. Not to mention it teaches history by explaining the battle and having every mission play out the same way as it did before, at the expense of the players determining who wins through the very same tactics. It blends it so well in fact that it’s one of the first games where you have to listen to leadership and keep in line to win. Sounds boring till you play it and really get into the LARP aspect of it. Wish we had more games like this which could keep history on the radar whilst being fun to play.

The game mechanic of punishing you for being out of formation i such a great idea that forces a group of completely random people to work together. Most players follow officer commands, perform volleys, and charge all together without hesitation, even on the public 350 player server. The day I saw around 50 men all collectively decide to work together in one company to defeat their enemy is the day I had my faith in humanity restored, if only just a bit. The sound of 50 muskets firing at the exact same time is a sound you will not forget. 100000000000% recommend this game. Don't listen to the recruiters saying the only way to have fun is in a clan, the pub server is almost always being led by competent officers and folks will teach you basic stuff happily.

Those two officers degenerating into petty name calling was pure comedy. This is what makes games like this special.

Love this game, I've wanted it for a long time and it definitely lived up to what I thought it would be. Also, despite the racism memes, most matches are pretty tame and the big server is well moderated. I hope this game has a surge, I'd love to see more active servers.

That famous confederate battle song… freebird! I nearly died laughing! The game mechanics for this are really smart. AAA devs take note.

the coolest part is, in most of videos like this it goes the following. you buy the game looking for servers that are either funny or cooridnated but never find any ever, maybe one or two. but this video IS war of rights, 99% of the time it goes exactly like this. ive been playing for almost 5 years now, so i know thats a fact

07:01 Very american of you to use the guy in front of you as a meathshield, kind of analogous to NATO, no? LOL 38:06 Yes, a drummer or fife so the men can keep time while marching, to give orders also. Obviously in Europe in the 18th Century, you needed all your men to fight in the line, so you gave children that role. The additional idea was that if the child got killed or maimed it would enrage the men and motivate them, or shame them into fighting harder.

Honestly sometimes at long range it’s better to take the bayonet off this comes from someone who usually plays as a SGT keeping people in line. I yell at people for running after people so often remember if your alone your dead

Once you start playing, even on the Confederate side, it's remarkably uncontroversial. A lot of the officers and players are from the South and through this game try to RP as their ancestors and want to portray them in their best light. The game itself, the mechanics lend themselves to very organised play. An incredibly enjoyable experience!

ive been playing the game for about 2 months now and the experience between public servers and locked historial events is night and day. also when theres plenty of admins on in the pub servers theyre fairly quick to warn/kick/ban people for being obnoxiously racist

They also kick and ban people for no reason or ignore trolling if it's someone in a regiment doing it.
