this has been going on for a while as these are people who use scare tactics to access others accounts and its been suddenly spiking as the person u might have been talking to was just a victim and they are using others accounts to be saying they reported u on accident i know this coz this has happened to my friends and to me, also I wish u 2 the best

Just got scammed by this same thing. Word of caution. If the scammer has already scammed you, they will most likely ask you to purchase a $150 steam giftcard to "validate your accounts credibility." DO NOT GIVE IT TO THEM. I was at least smart enough to realize that it was a scam by that point, but by then, my account was already in their hands. Please don't fall for this. A frien of mine just told me the exact same thing. Then old me to speak with the admin, he asked my discord and then... "Can you give me the code that just arrived at your E-Mail" with a wide screenshot, so I asked him to send me a full screenshot and he started to be defensive. I didn't gave him the code. After reporting and blocking the both of them, I just opened google and yt to search this kind of stuff andI can see that I'm not the first nor the last. (The funny thing is that this is the first time when I'm the target of scamming).

Found my way here because of someone trying to get me with a similar thing, the whole claim is ridiculous and wanted to see if it was a scam. So I report the user and I see this hilarious little inadvertant rebuttal of the whole thing after clicking the report button: "Thanks! We use these reports to help identify and address new scamming trends. We do not issue bans based solely on reports."

I had no idea about this scam and someone tried to use it one me, and I just saw so many red flags.. the last straw was they literally wanted me to send the my profile verification email XD I was willing to see what they were doing until that point and I was like yep, knew it was a scam! BOOM, they said they'd delete my profile 1-3 hours from now, if I don't come back saying it's deleted then you know it was a scam confirmed XD

If you approved a trade, probably not, but if they find them to be a scam user, they may revert trades, not sure how effective Steam support is
