The odd thing is that they ban victims for it too when it is invoked. Usually things like that keeps some sort of log every time a permission like that is used. So if a user appeals it and goes "my account joined these servers against my will," it would be easily verifiable by greping the said log. But no, they can't do that so they just don't allow appeals.

As someone actually into game development, with friends also involved in game development, the "test my game" scam is absolutely the worst. Discord's file sharing was really handy for sending unfinished builds and assets back and forth but now it's so strongly associated with scammers.

i acutally fell for that scam since I have a friend who IS going into game development, he got hacked from that (he also has dev friends, so its a big ol loop), but the scammer was so fucking stupid I still had complete access to my account, they tried to buy nitro but i had no money whatsoever in my bank so it didnt work. managed to delete the malware, change my passwords and I was fine.

It was a fucked up situation. They ended up messaging 4 people on my account trying to attempt the same thing to those people, lucky I was able to make those 4 people not click the link. The person ended up getting banned.

Im currently going through the same thing rn. One of my mutuals had DMed me about a fake game called "Legacy Souls" which was just a token grabber in disguise, and now im stuck waiting for discord support to get off their butts and do something. General rule for internet scams: if it's too good to be true, it is. Also, if it's banking on a time limit and fear, like the fake report scam, then it's using that to scare you out of thinking straight and into falling for it.

The worst is that those illustrator scams are very common on servers for writers. Because not too many people would suspect them immediately there, since in very limited scenarios illustrators can be related to writing. The less widely spoken the language¹, the better! 💱🇭🇺👍 (¹ - Mandarin, Spanish and French all have wide global fluency and might become more viable targets for scams as time goes on. For this reason less widely spoken languages - Hungarian, Polish, Welsh, etc - Are better choices if you can make use of them. 🇵🇱🛡👍)

I fell for the "I have reported your Discord account" scam weeks ago. I filled a ticket and have been constantly replying to the ticket's email, adding new screenshots and evidence to help my case. They have not replied yet. 2 days after I filled the ticket they said that they have escalated my ticket and that they could not confirm when they would get back to me. It has been so long and the hacker keeps using my account to scam other people. Please, help.

The 5th one happened to me but because im not an idiot I didn't fall for it but whoever tried to scam me was terrible, they had hacked one of my friends accounts or she fell for the scam tbh but they said they accidentally reported me because my name looked similar to someone else and they kept apologising in the end I just blocked them and went on with my day. Bit of a shame because I have lost a lot of friends online to this BS and I can never talk to them again.

One thing that always helps me spot scammy stuff right away - And we can see it in your screenshots too, as your OS appears to be in Español 🇪🇸 - Is where UI elements appear in the wrong language, such as in that screenshot of Candace's Discord profile at 11:33. On your browser the native Discord elements ( _Sobre Mim, Membro Discord Desde_ etc) automatically appear in Spanish, while the scammers content *always* appears in (broken) English. 🇬🇧 If I was viewing an official Discord staff profile on my device (French) the labels *and their job title* would all appear in Français, not English, and this will stand out like a sore thumb to those on non-English platforms. 👍 So a useful tool - If you speak a second language well enough to use the Web in it - Is to set your device to use a language other than English or Chinese so that falsified localisable UI elements immediately stand out. 💡

Not from a Discord scam, but I've already seen a BITB Steam login page that I was able to drag around :D Also even if we ignore the first scam, the third is like.... wtf.... Shame on discord for not blocking this years ago, they could stop it so fkin easily ._.

Number 5 was attempted today and for a bit (while I was skeptical) it did almost get me but then the "support" asked me to change my email "temporarily" to the one they sent. That's when I knew something was really up. my "friend" told me they "accidentally" blamed all of their friends on discord for it and people have already been banned. Just be careful of this because while I DIDN'T fall for it, someone else could.

If you get DMs from any servers (mostly furry servers) that try to “give you ideas” for art you could get, don’t interact. They try to guilt you into paying them money for a commission and they most likely use AI art. I get multiple DM requests a day from people like this.

Most importantly: You don't need to worry about your account being 'accidentally' reported in Discord or Steam. I have received many messages like this in Steam, and nothing happened to my Steam account. My Steam account is 8 years old. So, the 'accidentally reported' is pretty useless scam.

Art scammers and the such annoy me a lot. They take so long to get to the scam part. So... First thing I do is write BUT NOT SEND "I knew this was going to be about art, you're a scammer, don't say otherwise" And I take a screenshot. I then erase it all and just send "Hi, do you need anything?" And I continue asking this until they send their copypasta bullcrap. And boom, screenshot. Then I report to the servers we share after they start sending evil words to me

The artscam one specifically i once fell for, it was when it was First popping up. I *did* receive art, but it was, i'm pretty sure, AI-generated, and at some point they stopped bothering. I Eventually rescinded the money, and rather hilariously, they tried to redirect me to another account doing the same scam as if i hadn't figured them out already

There are so many instances where somebody claims to have "accidentally reported me". I fell for it once and almost got scammed. Once the guy started asking for money, I knew something wasn't right. So I had no choice but to ask my mother for help. (Don't judge.) She knew it was a scam and yelled at the scammer. The next day, my friends' profile changed to the scammers profile. I was relieved. I'm now not dumb enough to even respond to such instances.
