Back in my days on the USS ROBISON DDG-12 we ran on 1275 psi at 970 degrees making 70,000 line shaft horsepower. 2 screws pushing 4,500 tons at 33+ knots. Never underestimate steam power, at the pressures we used a pinhole leak could cut off your fingers and cauterize them without spilling a drop of blood.

In another area of creativity the turbine spins fast enough to use for propellers for driving not only water but propellers for flight for the new systems they use for drones I wonder how fast the drones propeller spins compared to how fast your steam pecker cutter dance in the sky

@@AKABILASETOFICIAL I don't think it works so , the very hogh pitch sound comes from the actual air coming out of the turbine case , but it does not have a corellation directly to the turbine itself , i think so. Think about it as the air column which vibrates in a whistle to produce the sound. And the RPM , i estimate the valour of hundreds of thousands of rotation per minute. (I remember , a decent fidget spinner , spinned by a air compressor , reaches around 46k RPM)

@@maxverstappennonofficial there are good videos on KZbin that explain this is a friendly way. My understanding is that motor rotation frequency (rpm) is directly linked to sound wave frequency that it emits. The trick with solving this specific problem is that the turbine has multiple fins and we don't know how many. This is important because each additional fin will increase the emitted frequency. If we knew the number of fins on the turbine has we should be able to divide the sound frequency by that number to determine rpm

@@SnowingNapalm not exactly, fluid pumps and gas turbines are similar in working principle, a spinny thing using a moving fluid to spin it (forgot to finish the comment haha) Sooo a pump doesn’t like gasses at all. cavitation in the pump can lead to extreme damage as well. Gotta keep them wet. A turbine doesn’t really have the shape design to do much to a fluid. It’s designed for gases and the properties of flow that gasses have. So similar, but different.

@@cyberpunkilmy4211 as long as that radiator you're speaking of is built to withstand that amount of pressure, and as long as the power train of said machine has a closed loop cooling system.Oh, and some sort of refill process would need to be implemented, because said radiator would only hold so much water to allow steam conversion (because water expands during evaporation). If you want your turbine to last then you will want to add a superheater to the steam line just before the turbine, this will remove all of the moisture in the steam and prevent damage to the tubine. It’s pretty simple to do and only requires you to heat the steam a bit more after it’s initially generated, can be done with a copper coil that the steam passes through being heated above the temperature of the saturated steam.

@@benleister -- Will the blades last longer with super-heated steam? And, what is the minimum temperature to be "super-heated"?
@benleister
@benleister Жыл бұрын
@@gman21266 hey mate, the blades will last significantly longer by using superheated steam. If you hear the steam above its generated temperature then it turns from saturated steam into a gas (superheated), this means that there is no moisture in the gas. I believe that if you passed the steam through a pipe that had fins in it or even a coil and heated the pipe with a burner then the added heat would create the much better (for this purpose) superheated steam. Saturated steam like what’s used in this video is not used in turbines due to the damage the water vapour does at high velocity. As for minimum temperature, I believe that if you’re generating steam at 120c then once the steam reaches 121c it turns into a gas state. Ive been led to believe that this is the case regardless of what temp it is generated at.
@benleister
@benleister Жыл бұрын
Something to keep in mind is that this steam will be invisible to the naked eye, and is usually accompanied by much higher pressures. It’s dangerous stuff 😅, because it has 0 moisture in it when in the superheated state it’s not very useful for heating purposes. Here is a link to some info en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superheated_steam I learnt about it whilst getting my boiler operators license and the instructor said it’s quite easy to do and the implications for turbines were tremendous.
