The "a" in "egads" is pronounced at the front of the mouth, like in "I am". But Skinner clearly makes a back vowel "ah" sound - like the "o" in "gods" (when pronounced in an American accent). And the cherry on top - "egads" itself derives from "ye gods", and Skinner, being someone who often uses rather old-fashioned vocabulary, would be much more likely to use the original phrase rather than its derivative. Like how he uses "luncheon" instead of "lunch".
