When playing the original game, I liked the cards that have a asterisk symbol. On these you use a die of specific colour but of any pip value. Therefore, they were very handy if you rolled low. In fact you wanted to roll low because they would then be cheaper to vent. Steampunk Rally is a very clever luck mitigation game as I always feel there is something you can do with the dice. The addition of the secret objectives just makes it even better! I don't really like racing games but this is one of the best. Probably because I like the card drafting, engine building and dice mitigation more so.

At 8:00 : you don't have to roll 6's but the total value of dice you put at any turn must be at least 6 (so a 4 and a 2 works for example) unless it's changed in Fusion From rules of Original Steampunk Rally : - Provided there are enough open Die Slots on a card, you may perform an activation using multiple dice D. - The sum of the pips on all dice placed during a single activation represents the activation power

This was such a good video. I love your whole set up, you made it super easy to figure out the game. But I think in the final production, they did make it so that when you place a dice in the slot, the number showing on the dice does not have to be greater than or equal to the dice slot number. But I think in the original game that may have been the case judging by this video and other videos around the internet which left me pretty confused. Although if I’m wrong I’d love some clarification, it’s just what I understood from reading the rules vs. watching videos.

well it was a prototype. one sees little goofs like that all tiem time in pre-production copies :)

this is basically an expansion that's been giving enough resource tokens to be sold as a standalone, and like any expansion, its designed to mix well :)

good question. honestly, i think they're both equally good. i'd choose the original for the reasons i mentioned in at the end of the video (not a fan of the randomness of the track events here, as opposed to the deterministic nature of the similar things in the original game), but OTOH, the fusion dice and other new features are great! tough call :)

Regarding the artefacts, could you just reveal all the artefacts for the course before the start?That way they become track features akin to thwomps in Maro kart et al. Also, how do you resolve who reveals them first when moving simultaneously? It seems all players could just wait indefinitely until someone else reveals it!?

they get revealed when anyone hits the space, but they don't get resolved until the end of the round, once everyone is in their final position, so multiple people can be hit by them at the same time if they all end their turns on them. and yes, they could all be face up, which would make the road events more like the road costs in the original game. i'd have preferred that, but i understand the devs wanted to have a game with more surprises :)

Hi Richard, great video as usual. Is this game more interactive than the original? I watched reviews of the original, which criticised the lack of interaction (other than the draft), especially in the race itself? Please note I do not necessarily want take-that interaction, and it doesn't have to be negative (although I don't mind messing with others). I loved your video on interaction mechanisms btw. My favourite is Parasitic interaction (eg Hansa Teutonica or Brass). Regards, Salman

At time stamp 14:45 Rahdo rolls two 5's (total of 10) and says he can't run his Thermal Oxidizer (because he didn't roll a natural 6). But at time stamp 8:00, on Paulo's list of goofs, it's stated that as long as you have a space free on the Thermal Oxidizer card, you can add dice together and activate it as long as it has a minimum total value of 6 or more. As Rahdo has a value of 10, the roll is legal to be used on the Thermal Oxidizer. True?

True. It's just a bit wasteful. You'd be better off trying to get a 6 or 12 using cogs.
