With auto high beam sensors some extra wiring is required for spotlights, here I went with the Stedi lights for my Toyota Prado 150 GXL 2021. Great to see that Stedi has custom wiring kits and switches for this model making this so much easier.

Hello and thank you for the video. Is there a technical reason why it is not feasible to simply tap into the high beam cable feeding one of the headlamps and use that to operate a relay which in turn powers the the spotlights? The vehicle headlamps will only ever be ON when powered by either the driver or the remotely mounted high beam sensor. Appears to be a simpler, cheaper and still legal way to operate the spots. Look forward to your thoughts, thanks.

You are absolutely correct, there is no technical reason why you could not tap into the high beam feed at the light. The Stedi lights come with a wiring harness and relay, in this example you could just put the relay coil in series with a tap into the high beam, you need to add a switch to stop the spotlights always being on with the high beam. As you’d need to modify the spotlight supplied harness I would do it before you start fitting. I see on the Stedi site that most vehicle piggyback adaptors sell for $30, but for some reason the Prado is $50! I suppose you’d need to add the extra wiring, connectors etc, but definitely worth considering, thanks for the idea.

Hi mate, great video. My daughter has the same vehicle & ARB Summit Bullbar. I bought a set of Stedi X Type Pro 8.5 inch lights 18 months ago which are still in the box but we're worried that they may interfere with the cruise control, collision avoidance and lane assist system. Can I please ask did you have any research or information as to weather the bigger lights would interfere? I can't find any information on it? Thanks in advance.

I've not seen anything on this, however I guess you could put them in place and see how close to the front of the sensor they are. I'm not sure on the sensor pattern, but would have thought it's a straight beam from the actual sensor behind the badge. I bet you'd be fine, but you may just have to test it and let us all know.

Hi there great video and I subscribed to your channel. Just like ro know where tou connected the red wire under the dash. I think it's numbered 3. Cheers

Thanks Marcus, from looking at the link below I remember that the red wire connects to the Auto High beam switch using the connector, then feeds down to the loom for the connection to the light harness (red - 3). The auto high bean switch is one of the small square switches to the right of the steering wheel. Hope this helps, it was a while ago when I did it! support.stedi.com.au/hc/en-us/articles/360040328312-Toyota-150-Series-Prado-MY18-Piggy-Back-Adapter

Hi Bro , great video, much appreciated! Just got a silly question, where is the high bream connector? Got a 2019 GXL thx
@chrisp10022
@chrisp10022 Жыл бұрын
On mine there is a AHB switch to the right hand side of the steering wheel, skip in the video to 4:23, see the middle top square switch with a A in the middle. Behind this there is a green wire, you need to tap into this.

@@chrisp10022 thank you for your reply! Just wondering can I connect to high bream directly instead of steering wheel? Thx
@chrisp10022
@chrisp10022 Жыл бұрын
That is a very good question! You would need to try it! I believe that there is some sort of control voltage rather than direct switching voltage, hence the need for the additional loom, however I may be wrong so would be interested to know.

I'm in the process of installing. I think I've attached the piggy back harness in correctly and now I'm confused. Where does the cable labeled "3" (has Black and red Female blade connectors) connect to? Do you have additional wiring from the switch? Where does the trigger wire run to?

Hi mate where did you connect wire labelled d pls?
@chrisp10022
@chrisp10022 10 ай бұрын
Wire d is connected to the new switch to supply the illumination voltage, if you use the Stedi sq switch then pin 5 on it.

can you have the park lights on and flick to high beam and the spotties come on without the headlights on? I picked up the dash light illumination wire at the back of the ahb swich and am unsure if it was the correct one. would have been good to have in the video.

@chrisp10022
@chrisp10022 2 жыл бұрын
I've tested the flick to high beam and can confirm the spotlights do not activate using this option. I guess the loom connects them to the main switch only.

Hi, nice job. I fitted same on my 2018 gxl. Does your Stedi switch stay illuminated all the time when ignition on or only when its in the in or out position. I also think my auto light do not work with this....yes i connected wire to green wire in car loom.
@chrisp10022
@chrisp10022 2 жыл бұрын
@AlanEdgerton The Stedi switch light is only on when the switch is in the on position. However I remember fitting another Stedi switch and I did have the light on all the time, It was to do with reversing one of the contacts, I'm trying to remember exactly, but it's do do with the relay contacts providing the power and circuit to the switch light. Test with a meter and find the switch pair, then swap them around. Better still contact Stedi! With the green wire, I know there are issues with piggy back connectors making good enough contact. I stripped the insulation back carefully with a sharp knife then soldered the wire to it. Give Stedi a call or email, I'm sure they will help better then me! Good luck

Hey mate. Great video thanks I’m just trying to connect my square stedi push switch to power and work with the lights but can’t get it working. I’ve watched and followed the stedi video for push switches - they mention a wire which will connect to something under the dash to give the switch the blue light and power. The green auto high beam wire and all other connections are made as per instructions so I assume I’ve got the wiring wrong on the push switch. Thanks

Hey Mate, thanks heaps for the video. We're currently trying to fit our headlights to our Toyota Prado 2018 using the Stedi haness and Toyota Prado piggyback. You will find the solid green wire in the back of the Auto High beam switch, located to the right of the steering wheel in the panel of switches This link may be helpful support.stedi.com.au/hc/en-us/articles/360040328312-Toyota-150-Series-Prado-MY18-Piggy-Back-Adapter
