20" wheels look great but have a harsh ride unless your roads are flat and smooth. Where I live the roads suck so honestly I won't go larger than a 19" wheel.

I run thin 20 inch with all seasons for the winter months. Gives me the extra ground clearance needed. That said, I do prefer my track package wide 19 inches for the remainder of the year; as you stated, much smoother ride.

autox cheat but like with the Miata's in ES... run the ecoboost brakes and smaller 17s and reduce your sidewall for a little gearing change ( i dont actually recommend this but this is one extreme case smaller is better) also 17s are cheaper than 19s . love seeing the 18s on the road course cars. proper!

@steedaautosports Жыл бұрын
Good idea, however, It can be a catch-22 with that combo. Depending on how quick that autocross course is, you may want the larger brakes to slow the car down as these Mustangs are quite a bit heavier than a Miata! We like the 18s because it allows us to keep the 6-piston Brembos up front! -Chris

@steedaautosports
@steedaautosports Жыл бұрын
Of course! I wouldn't veer too far away from your factory tire heights if you're roll racing to ensure you don't adversely affect your gearing/top speed. Outside of that, you could go honestly in any direction between 19" and 20" so long as you have adequate contact patch for rear tire grip. Hope this helps! -Chris

Love your content. I have a 2023 GT 5.0 performance pack one brand new car I do like the looks of the stock performance pack wheels but would like to get wider rubber all the way around the car I know I have six pistons upfront for calipers. Not sure what the rear is, not planning on racing at the track but looking for street performance and looks ( cars and coffee ) should I stay with the 19 offset or go with square? I think I would like to change my rims so that I could see more of these beautiful Brembo calipers just need some advice and maybe some different package options you could offer me, don’t understand why Mustang doesn’t offer these calipers for the year 2023 ( s550 ) in colors. If I want a color caliper do I have to pull calipers off send them out to be painted? Please help. DAVE 60 yrs old live in Maine.
@steedaautosports
@steedaautosports Жыл бұрын
Hello, the tire sizes that come with the performance pack are the widest that we would recommend on the factory wheels. If you aren't planning to race the car on track, there really isn't a reason to go with a square setup, staggered would be the way to go. Obviously the style and diameter is up to you, but either a 19x10/19x11 or 20x10/20x11 would be able to fit a 275 wide tire up front and 315 in the rear. As for the brakes, because you already have the Brembos, the best way would be to remove them or take the car to a paint shop to be professionally painted.

@@steedaautosports thanks so much for getting back to me it means a lot . I am new to this social media type stuff so bare with me. So it looks like I could go with a 19 x 10 upfront 19 x 11 in the rear and keep the same rims?? However, I may go with a different rim wider tires as you described keeping a 19 inch and open the space up so that the calipers are more visible these original performance pack wheels cover up the calipers .. I kind of like the look of what I see on the GT 350 R or the GT 350 what would you recommend for a 19 inch rim that looks similar and what would you recommend for tires? We typically see only up to a 20" wheel on the Mustang so we can't give exact sizes for a 21", but up front a 20x10 with a +34mm offset on a 275/35R20 tire and in the rear a 20x11 with a +52mm offset on a 305 or 315/35R20 fits perfect. Hi there! Thanks for the kind words. I'd look into Apex wheels if I were you. On the 2024s, you won't be able to fit anything smaller than a 19" wheel if you have the Brembos. With that said, you have a few options from Apex Wheels. In their flowform lineup, you can go with a 19x11 ET52 all the way around with a 1" spacer up front - allowing you to run a 305 or 315 square. Their EC-7 in that size comes in at 24.5 lbs. I'm not sure what the new Dark Horse Handling Pack wheels weigh, but the S550 GT Performance Package wheels weigh 33 lbs for comparison. -Chris www.steeda.com/apex-race-parts

What about 20” wheels but go roll forge/flow formed, or fully forged, you’d get the benefit of larger contact patch and less rotational mass surely? Also is it necessary to keep the overall tire width the same when going 20”? There’s room in those wheel arches.
@steedaautosports
@steedaautosports Жыл бұрын
Of course, that's always an option! But if you go fully forged 18" or 19" that's still less rotating mass than a fully forged 20" :) All the wheels mentioned in this video are already flow formed which help quite a bit with weight while keeping price in-check. Hope this helps! -Chris

hello very informative video! Im looking around for a wheel and tire setup currently I have a mustang ecoboost with oem 18 inch wheels. I would love to go with 19 inch wheels preferably what you mentioned in the video 19x10 with 275-35 tires front and 19x11 with 305-35 tires in the rear . I was wondering if there would be any issues if I ran that set up on my ecoboost? is there a difference between the mustang gt that factors into running this set up or will I be able to run this set up on my eco boost? Also I got a bit confused when you mentioned that the speedometer measures off the rear wheel what did you mean by that and will that be something I need to look out for?
@steedaautosports
@steedaautosports Жыл бұрын
All of this info is for the EcoBoost as well! If you have the performance package, you would have the 13.9" brakes from a GT, but you're wanting 19s so clearance is not an issue regardless. For the speedometer, if the overall height of your 19" wheels and tires are taller than factory, then you will be driving slightly faster than what your speedometer is reading. You want to get a tire with a smaller sidewall as close to the factory height. There are tire size calculators online you can use with your factory size to see what you would need to match with a 19". Alternatively, if you have a tuning device you should be able to input a new tire size and the speedometer will account for that.

I went the custom wheel route, which means Billet Specialties forged rims. 19x10 front and 19x11 rear. By going forged , the numbers were pretty shocking. Factory 19x9 1/2 rear with only a 275 Perelli tire weighed 65+ lbs. 19x11 with 325 Continentals weighed 54 lbs. I'm sure the fronts were a lot lighter. 19x10 with 285 Perelli. Now these wheels were expensive but the look and the custom back spacing, combined with custom powder coat,, did the trick for me. Also custom wheel size meant no spacers needed. This is all on a stock PP S550. I was told that GT350 front fenders are wider which would allow a 305 tire. Please comment if true.. Good video, thx

For a 20" wheel we typically see +37 for a 10in width and +53 for an 11in width. If you want to go 19" squared, you're able to go up to 11" all around with that +53 offset. You will just need to run a 1" spacer up front. Or if you do want to stick to a 10in width, then somewhere around +35 to +37 would work. So 18 x 10.5 inch with ET+48 would clear the GT350 four piston rear caliper?
@steedaautosports
@steedaautosports Жыл бұрын
That's dependent on the wheel spoke and barrel clearance. There aren't many 18" wheels that will clear that caliper/rotor, unfortunately. -Chris

Did anyone go from 20"s to 18"s? Please, tell me your experience. I got a 2nd hand 2017 S550 GT. These come standard with the performance package's suspension here in Europe. The thing is the former owner put some cool 20"s and, while I like how they look in the car A LOT, the ride is way too... "detailed", meaning you can feel every imperfection on the road. Would it help if I went from 20"s to 18"?

Not at all! The Mustang comes with 18s from the factory, plus you'll get some added fuel economy with less rotating mass.

From 2005-2024, you can follow all the same advice for wheel fitment, what works on an S550 fits the same as on S197. One thing to note is if your car is lowered, you might need an adjustable panhard bar as the rear solid axle does shift over when lowered.
