Great video! I didn't know you could cut knits and put a zipper in. I'm thinking I might try this with a thrifted sweater to start. I hope you put more videos up. :)

Thanks heaps! Really well demonstrated and explained. I was trying to avoid the hand basting but you are correct. Do it well, do it once. Cheers.

Thank you for this great tutorial. I really like the facing too. That gives and extra finished and polished look to your new jacket.

If the sweater were acrylic use wonder tape in place of the iron. Works great, no melting and does the same thing.

loveee this so much! how would you go about finishing the raw edge of the zipper at the top of the sweater? in the video the sweater has a collar that can be flipped over so it conveniently covers the raw edge of the zip, but what about if you were to use a crewneck sweater or something similar? should I add a zipper tab (?) before installing the zip, like something to cover the raw edge?

I'm not sure you'll see this comment since im just now finding your video....but did the zipper have 2 pulls on it ? I was confused if it's a zipper like a jacket would have why there'd be 2 pulls. My son asked about this very issue...going from 1/4 zipper on a sweater to a full zipper. I'm not good with zippers i think i could do one following your video. Was just confused when i saw 2 pulls. Thanks

This particular zipper does have that second pull so it can separate from the bottom once it is zipped, sometimes called a parka zipper. I think I bought it that way because it was the best color/size match I could get at a brick and mortar store, the project didn't really require that. I usually see them on slightly longer coats.

Thanks so much. Meijer had a huge 90% off clearance sale on some of their old clothing. Of course it was on things no one else bought but I'm disabled and... Well... Poor so got some clothes that aren't the best looking but better than being naked. I found two sweaters that to be honest, I didn't think were as ugly as they really are and bads been wanting to add a zipper to then so they don't look as much like grandma sweaters. This tutorial is perfect. Now I just need my health to cooperate with me and give me a good day sometines soon so i can actually do it. How long does it take you to do this?
@thedomesticatedbear60263 жыл бұрын
Hi Jamie, for the first time, especially since you’re dealing with a zipper, it could take an hour… I know I have to backtrack and rip stuff out when I’m learning.

THANK YOU! I steeked a sweater a year ago and put it aside for a year as I couldn't figure out my next step in applying a zipper. It's now finished thanks to you

Would it be possible to steek a zipper to salvage a sweater with a hole? I've got a woollen pullover with a hole smack in the middle of the chest. Might it be possible to steek in a 1/4 length zipper?
@thedomesticatedbear6026 Жыл бұрын
I think it is possible, you might need to create a facing for the zip placket. I've also got a video for mending holes in sweaters...

Thank you, I missed whether the sweater was one hundred percent wool.
@thedomesticatedbear60263 жыл бұрын
I'm 99 % sure that this one was indeed all wool. I actually altered this for a theatre production, so it doesn't belong to me to double check. I remember it was an Eddie Bauer, and they tend to do a few all wool sweaters every year (sometimes some nice camp shirts too!).

I appreciate your reply. I too have Eddie Baer sweaters.
