Great video Don. To think that 1 person (Xi) is deciding all policy for over a billion people with very, very distorted and extremely inaccurate information should be terrifying for Chinese citizens. Thank you for your time and effort.

Appreciate your insights ... I feel sorry for the Chinese workers who fought so hard for a better life and a better China, only to be let down by leaders with a poor understanding of economics, supply and demand, and the invisible hand. This will ripple backwards into every industry there that aided in overbuilding. The oversupply has to be worked off or destroyed before new demand will set the wheels in motion again. Some supplies could be 'dumped' into other countries, or given out in the form of foreign aid, but tariffs pop up very easily these days as nations seek to protect their own core industries.

Instead of small market corrections, the State opt for the "great correction of China". China grew faster than any expectation, but probably collapse harder than anyone could imagine.
@pablosskates7067

That’s what happens when the government thinks it can do better than the market. Big bets lead to big mistakes. One child policy for example. If the decision is correct, central control can lead to incredible gains, but it can also be catastrophic. A few winning hands may deceive but it’s not sustainable long term as you’re always one big mistake away from collapse.

@@charliex2896 a huge factor in China's rapid growth was enormous foreign investments. Those have all disappeared now. Their economy is on life support and Xi knows it. Any more significant rounds of tariffs (EVs, steel, etc) will result in a complete economic collapse (this doesn't even factor in more "Western" tech bans). This is now Garbage Time for Xi and his buddies.

Don't know the specifics, but shipbuilding has also been in decline. You just gotta love how xjp seems to think his edicts can change the basic laws of free market economics and the inner workings of capitalism . Guess he's learning his lessons the hard way. No sympathy from me. Thank you Don for your insightful and informative presentations.

Thank you for the "monkey juggling corn". I've never heard that analogy. Probably because monkeys can't juggle. I never got to watch one try. Trade and commerce with as little corruption as possible seems to be the best way for everyone to proceed. Yet we are seeing wars , conflict and massive corruption. Quite depressing.

Good video Don. I'd like to see you make a video on this: Why China wants a war sooner than you think? Of course. Like all autocratic governments, their main goal is to continue to stay in power. That will become more and more difficult as China's economy is tanking. Between 5 to 10 years from now, their economic situation will become unsustainable and they will then covertly start a war to rally the population around them and stay in power longer. Democratic governments would have done the same it it had benefitted them but it doesn't because they have laws controlling how long a leader can stay in power regardless of how popular he or she is.

Also anti-dumping laws from Europe and US also helped here. The real issue is 1/2 of the companies in China do not make money but got propped up by there local officials for jobs in china many factories still today pay low wages but send the works children to school and feed them. So once locals cant generate income from taking and selling land to built high rises, they can no longer create funny money to pay off these factories that lose money so they are stuck right now imo.
