This ND team was even better than the 1988 championship team, IMO. They beat 7 teams that finished in the final top 20, including both Rose Bowl participants and obviously Colorado, who was #1 at the time.

Not a ND fan but they had a great team that year! They had a brutal schedule and only lost to Miami in the OB and back then no one was beating them. They couldve lost this game and Colorado would have won the NC. But back then bowls really meant something!

This was such a fun era of college football! As others have said this ND team was absolutely loaded and arguably better than the 1988 team that won the title. Having to play Miami at the OB at that time was simply a death sentence. As things played out a split title would have been justified imo when you look at the entirety of the Irish's and Cane's seasons.
