The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly on the impact the work ethic of quarterback Russell Wilson is having on the Steelers locker room:
“(Wilson’s impact) was clearly evident during rookie minicamp, with Wilson’s name being brought up unsolicited on a handful of occasions. The common thread: Wilson’s relentless work ethic. One team source said the Steelers haven’t seen somebody work as hard as Wilson at his craft since the early days of Antonio Brown, who was notorious for the effort he put into his game to become the best wide receiver in the league for a span of more than five years. The Steelers Straight out said "We will be running the football". We will be "Run heavy & play-action-pass". Running the football means NOT passing the football. So with them NOT throwing the ball a lot, why trade draft picks for a WR who will not have the ball thrown to him? We have a #1, 3 solid WR's, 1 Rookie who looks good, 2 TE's and an H-back. How much more do you need for a team that is NOT going to be throwing the ball a lot?

The Steelers have been swirling the mediocrity bowl for most of a decade now. Never a losing record but never really a threat to go anywhere either. Maybe this year is different, but if not, they should consider tearing it down to the studs and rebuilding. I few years with front end of draft picks could go a long way to getting real mojo back. If Fields doesn't pan out the offense will be a flash in the pan at best as Wilson is not a long-term solution and every year the stars on defense get older. They need to start looking at longer term sustainable success, by which I mean more than barely avoiding a losing season being the measuring stick. This team feels like a stretch of highway that has been patched every year for a decade and now there is more patch than highway.
