The Pittsburgh Steelers sent their full top brass of coaches and executives to the first Senior Bowl practice, with a heavy emphasis on defensive line and cornerback. Christopher Carter interviews Nick Farabaugh, who observed Mike Tomlin hone in on defensive line, and specifically on Deone Walker of Kentucky and Walter Nolen of Ole Miss, while the cornerbacks won big on the day with Azareye'h Thomas of Florida State and Maxwell Hairston of Kentucky as major standouts.

I love how the offense can't score more than 14 points, but let's focus on the d line.

I think they're going to concentrate on offense during free agency. Probably draft WR and RB, but I definitely think we need DL in 1st or 2nd rd.

Maybe if we had a quarterback that wasn't either a washed diva in Russ or a slightly above average backup and red zone gadget player in Fields MAYBE we would be able to score more points. But on the same hand, if our d-line was able to stop other teams better and keep them from busting out 25 to 50 yard runs and our corners could play a little more lock down instead of playing so damn far off the receivers we wouldn't NEED to score so many points!!!

I live in KY I've watched big DEONE WALKER his hole career I'm a wildcat fan DEONE is MORE THAN just a noise tackle he plays all 3 downs for UK an mark stoops moves DEONE all over the place he has a high win rate at pass rushing and think about this DEONE did it at UK WITHOUT MUCH HELP against the SEC against the best players in the nation been double team even triple at times an chip watch the tape I said DEONE is a Dawg an very explosive for his size he can really move I believe when he test at the combine he will turn alot heads I just hope DEONE my favorite DT/DL gets drafted bye my favorite NFL team steelers

If you can put offenses in 3 and long every time they try to run on 1st and 2nd down , well worth a first round pick to draft a nose tackle. It’s not the amount of time the player is on the field. Some downs are more important than others. Putting the other team off schedule all season long helps TJ and Highsmith have a great year.

Yes-I was making this argument during the 2022 for Jordan Davis (he ended up going 12th-before our pick at 20)… but it’s cool, we ended up with KP 😂 Edit: a double team eating NT also keeps the ILBs clean to stuff the run.

Good teams don't even run the ball on 1st down like clockwork so a nose tackle doesn't have the effect you think unless you're playing the Steelers. Only the Steelers believe in the obvious run, run, pass, punt which is why the offense is so anemic. As soon as we stop trying to "establish the run" then maybe we'll win a playoff game.

@ - there’s some truth to that-however, a competent coach would find good use for a strong NT vs the Ravens where they they threw it 21 times and rushed it 50. This would also be very helpful in short yardage situations where we’ve witnessed this DL getting pushed backwards time and time again.

I absolutely agree to double dip on Dline. I would look at D-Tackle later just because of the bigger chance to be a three down player. I think about how the Eagles built their teams via the draft by dominating the line of scrimmages and then go get your wide receiver and you’re running back via trade or free agency. In this case, I think you can get a running back in this year‘s draft.. so I think if the Steelers can build their offense and defensive line through the draft, we have our linebackers. We definitely need that wide receiver and corner to complete this team and I think that this off-season you can do that. A couple of wide receivers that I look at in the later rounds that might be able to make this team: Tory Horton from Colorado State 6’3” 195, he’s slower and coming off an injury but he’s that route runner that you are searching and great balance. Jimmy Horn Jr., he has a ton of talent just has had a rough year if not a little bit more with family. He’s Dad is in jail and Prime was there for him. He’s smaller at 5’10” 180 but runs a 4.3 40. The other one I have not seen a whole lot of recently, but my son played with him is Ricky White from UNLV. He can run (4.45) and take the top off of a defense. He is 6’1” 190 pounds. He’s a Georgia kid that went to Michigan State and then transferred. UNLV played well this year.

I know everybody doesn't love him, but the Steelers need to listen to Chris Simms QB rankings. Dude has been on it most times about what QBs can be good in the league. His analysis is the best in the business and he can tell you who could be a star without sacrificing a 1st rounder. Unless Shadeur falls to us, no QB is worth a 1st rounder other than Cam and Sanders. Jalen Milroe is a huge project, but I'll wait for his draft rankings to drop.

I think the Steelers need CB and DT more than people know. The most important thing in this draft is to draft someone to backup JF at QB. Will Howard is my top choice for a 3rd rounder. RB is down the list because this draft is so deep. If I'm drafting, I'm drafting Walter Nolen in the first, Ben Morrison or Matt Golden. 2nd round has to be DT, CB or WR. I'd love to see the Steelers get Ayomanor. 3rd round - Will Howard

Absolutely yes on double dip for d line. Tj sanders (not Stewart lol, Dylan Stewart is the edge rusher) in the second round to get the defense end type. Then get the nose tackle late in the draft like Nash Hutchmacher (Nebraska ), Bill Norton (Texas), or Jordan Phillips (Maryland). But absolutely pass on Deone Walker. He takes so many plays off and just is a big guy that has no actual juice

love Jack Bech and Savion Williams. The position you can wait on and get great value is WR and RB. You can get a quality starter for both in the Fourth. TBech as noted or Martinez, Hunter, Mulling or even Tuten and Monangai at RB. But the second round has to be a wr for the playmaker. ZERO REASON to go DT before the 4th round. the top corners and WRs are not at the shrine or senior bowl. You need that man cover corner. there will be around 4 cb near the #21 pick. You only have 3 wrs on the roster. you have no RBS on the roster. (Jaylen is a RFA) YOU MUST GET A MAN COVER CB. RD1: cb rd2 wr rd3: RB RD4: OR LATER dt.
