The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed Mike Tomlin to a 3-year extension to be the team's head coach through the 2027 season. Christopher Carter gives his reaction on the Locked on Steelers podcast, both in how obvious it was that the move was going to happen, and how obvious it was the move the Steelers needed to happen. Can Tomlin help the Steelers get back to winning in the playoffs when they haven't under him in the past seven seasons?

You hit the nail on the head with your perspective on this. I get both sides of the argument as far as the lack of playoff success. But like you said, it doesn’t all fall on the coach. But people like to just point fingers at the man in charge. Without Tomlin a lot of these free agents we been building with probably wouldn’t come here. People speaking on potentially playing her because we have tomlin. He’s a players coach and has made something out of nothing and kept us relevant. And he’s been building an exciting product along with the Khan Artist. Hate to bring race into it but it’s a relevant point. On all the Steelers pages and blogs that I follow typically the ones calling for Tomlins head and disrespecting him are white. Does he not get the respect and a pass cuz he’s not a Cowher or Knoll? Everyone (majority) outside of the Pittsburgh Steelers fan base respects this man and acknowledges his greatness and what he brings to the franchise.

Speaking from someone who has been in charge, the finger always gets pointed at you. Meaning that if your employees don’t get the job done, then you’re not getting the job done. @@D0NNY-JAMES I too am in charge at my place of employment. Manufacturing environment and yes I get your point. But if you are not given the tools to succeed, levels of accountability vary based on the what you were working with. Whether you like Tomlin as a coach or not, the important question becomes if not Tomlin, than who? I can’t think of any other coach on his level, that brings to the table what he brings in attracting talent to the team. You don’t replace just to replace, you need to have a succession plan. If Tomlin can’t do anything with this team they’re putting together, then I can see revisiting moving on. But right now he’s the best option and he actually has the tools to put his talents to use.
@D0NNY-JAMES

@@Penera_Bred I don’t know who that person is, but I didn’t know who Tomlin was either. And I really didn’t care about that with Ben in his prime. Most of these fans think that Tomlin deserves all of the credit for having a successful team. But the reality is that the Steelers culture has been largely unchanged. Trust me, if Tomlin was performing at his best we wouldn’t be having this debate. And I don’t like hypothetically speaking! But the reason why they look better is because of khan, not Tomlin.” Carter said quarterbacks don’t grow on trees,and he’s right. But 7 years without a playoff run is unacceptable!! I’d be happy with a one year contract. And if they don’t draft or sign a new QB, I’m afraid nothings ever going to change. It’s way too early to tell what quarterback to choose next, but he better be a good one ☝️
@Penera_Bred
@Penera_Bred 2 ай бұрын
@@D0NNY-JAMES just like Tomlin doesn’t deserve all the blame for the failures, he doesn’t deserve all the credit for the successes either. It’s a team game, and a lot of different pieces have to be in sync to reach that ultimate goal. From the staff to the front office, and of course the players. Tomlin being who he is has players from the past, present and future praising him. And with that level of respect, comes the desire to play for him and vouch for who he is as a coach. That player respect is very important when it’s the players that execute on the field and go to battle for you when the stakes are high. People perform better for those they respect in any line of work. This video that we’re commenting under outlines a lot of obstacles that have happened in Tomlins time as the coach, but yet the franchise has never been at the bottom of the barrel. Maybe not meeting the expectation of all the fans of the greatest franchise ever, but at the end of the day you have to look at all factors when judging someone’s successes or failures in their position. We can agree to disagree, that’s fine. But I for one am happy with this signing and hope he can make champions out of this team THEY are putting together.

Penera’ brought out the race card!! I’m white and I don’t judge people by the color of their skin, I judge them based on merit!! In my opinion Tomlin seems to be burned out, Art had to fire Canada and who knows how long it would’ve taken Mike. He’s too comfortable with his position and it seems to translate to the players. I’ve seen interviews where the players don’t even knock before they come in his office. They look at him as a friend, not a coach. Regardless if Kenny was going to be a bust, why would he trade away a number one pick who only played 24 games? He never had a chance. Three years is a little too long of an extension for me. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!

That screams PERSONNEL ISSUES, and Omar Khan is addressing that by thinking outside of the Steelers box. What do you think would’ve happened if the Steelers had gone after Russ in 2021 and 2022, when he told everybody he wanted out of Seattle? The Steelers would e already made at least one SB run.
