I am a novice; I just bought my first DSLR camera. It seemed complicated, but after watching these videos I am beginning to understand. You simply give the information without going overboard on the tech jargon, and your presentations are well organized with the perfect amount of info. I can only comprehend so much at once. I have already learned so much, thank you.

My Nikon D5600 DSLR camera will be delivered next week and I can’t wait. Your teaching videos are fantastic, as you’re concise in your lesson. I also love how you demonstrate the techniques, which I’ll be doing once everything arrives. Please continue to make them free. I spent all my savings on my camera, a Tamron 18-400 lens, and my camera bag with a few lens cleaning tools, and can’t afford to pay for a camera store lesson, which I’ll forget most of within a day or two. Do you have a video on memory cards or camera/lens care?

Fantastic tutorial. Thank you so much. One question I have for you, I tried focussing on my subject and then recomposed. However when I recomposed, somehow I lost my focus even though I am half pressed on my shutter release button. Why is that?
@QuanNguyen-og6pq7 жыл бұрын
This is excellent, bro. Can you explain more about when focus-recompose fails? I mean I know that it fails when we have very shallow dof, but what about the physics behind that?

Excellent.. As a novice I was glad to hear about difficulties with focus. I have moved to a beautiful part of Victoria in the Yarra Ranges with prolific bird life. However as I walk along the Lilydale to Warrandyte trail not only can I have light extremes, shade to sun but the birds don't exactly strike a pose so as they flit in and out and around, I am trying to hang in there on manual figuring out how to settle into a combination of shutter speed etc that works. And yes, I have times when my camera is desperate to focus as a bird is playing hide and seek in a bush. Have I mentioned the Eastern Rosellas that will then dart across in front of you when you least expect it?

Great video Phil, I've purchased two of your online courses in the past week. "How to Shoot Professional-Looking Portraits on a Budget With Small Flashes" and "Lightroom Made Easy" so these KZbin videos are a great supplement to those courses. I love reading but the instructional videos are so much better than reading a book or instruction manual. Nice work!

I like your videos a lot more than most people on youtube, because you don't edit the damn thing every 2 seconds. You actually know what you're talking about and have full confidence at it makes for a much more reliable source to get information and tips from. I cannot stand people that make a 10 minute video, and they literally edit it after saying 4 to 5 words. It does my head in and just sounds annoying. your videos just flow so much better. Cheers.

@bobkoure7 жыл бұрын
I use BBF, but map it to a front button :-) I'm often in single servo mode with this, rather than continuous, like you. It makes focus and recompose effortless (put current focus point over where I want focus, push BBF button - AF-L in Nikon-speak - release, press shutter button to release). Note that with Nikons, at least, if you're using spot metering, it meters based on what's under that cuffent AF point when you press the shutter. Mostly a don't care for me, as I'm usually in manual exposure mode (so using it like a match-needle SLR) so no changes in AE (all that happens is the exposure indicator in the viewfinder changes, shot unaffected). Works about the same in continuous servo mode as well, just need to hold down the AF-L button while subject is in motion, so can't really recompose - so I end up having to pick one of the outer AF points.
