Was this the best line up, there have been so many and every one brilliant. Thank you Steeleye for more years than l care to remember.

Best lineup overall probably still remains the mid-70’s lineup (with Bob Johnson and Tim Hart) but this lineup with Ken Nicol is probably the best I saw in concert.

Finally a good live recording of Steeleye Span's King Henry on youtube :) Thanks for uploading this great video

I know what you mean. I saw Steeleye many times in the early days and the sound was almost always atrocious. Sadly that translated into some of the recordings too - cooked too hot, maybe? The very worst time was a little later, in King’s Lynn Corn Exchange, when Maddy Prior’s voice was completely buried in the barrage of noise from the some of the instruments.

@@marshlanderdumarais264 Several times in Philadelphia. Imagine Maddy as a grand mom singing to her grandchildren in Bewcastle at Stones Barn. May she still be singing strong in 2046.

I’ve always thought they meant Henry the second , who slept around a lot and enjoyed hunting.

Actually the guitarist is Ken Nicol, of Preston, Lancashire. He replaced Bob Johnson and has now left Steeleye.

It's no criticism, but I note that once white men reach that approximate age, their voices are usually done. Which must be incredible frustrating for them.

Don’t like this version. Too fast and has lost authenticity. Best version is on their album Below the Salt. This is like some poor imitation….

It's remarkable what a/ the performers ageing 30 years and b/ not being in studio does to a song!
@Theshpeemer10 ай бұрын
Your right it is wee bit too fast and it's effect would be different and imo better if it was more slow and hearty.. however it's still an amazing performance and they did a great job!

I suspect none in particular, just a knight who meets a Loathly Lady and breaks the spell on her.
