Steelie Blue Steelhead Jig, Holsingers Fly Shop

In this video I bring you a nice steelhead jig that's gonna get you down to the bottom quickly and be perfect for a Czech Nymph or highsticking method of fishing. Blue is the last color that trout and salmon can see as they are on their way to spawn and die making this the perfect color for steelhead fishing. Shawn,a nice fly,would look good in purple to,the Allen Fly Company makes a great jig hook in several sizes,I tie mine with a slotted tungsten bead,tight lines & screaming reels.

Nice jig tie Shawn. Probably a mute point considering this is an older post but Mustad made heavy 90° jig hooks in small sizes for some time now, even premolded lead heads in those sizes. Now there's more than enough styles of jig hooks available. Cool, those slotted beads fit just like a molded head would. Also thanks for showing the Wacko hackle. I'm very familiar with metallic threads, didn't realize that's all Wacko hackle was. Awesome tutorial Shawn!

Hey Shawn, first off love your videos. Good video quality and instruction. But regarding the use of blue for steelhead, I've heard that blue is the first and final color on the spectrum that steelhead will identify at dawn and dusk respectively. Since steelhead don't shutdown to die like a salmon, this too seems to make sense. Most days that I've caught a trout or steelie on something with blue in it, it's either first or last night or a miserable dark day outside! lol! TIght lines, brother.

Wow great video I love the fly. Unfortunately I'm not around salmon water anymore but I would so use this fly on the trout and bass waters I fish. I would tear it up when the dragonfly season is on and that blue fly would be great along with an orange and a white version. Thank you.
