They went with leather in order to better lock in the sound for more bass response. That’s why most good noise canceling headphones, like Bose and Sony, use the same. Noise canceling also wouldn’t work near as well with cloth pads, they’d leak and let in too much sound to be effective at cancelling out frequencies, unless you use a thicker more coarse weave, like Apple’s AirPods Max.

I have the Arctic nova pro wireless and I absolutely love them I bought the after market cooling ear pieces by Wicked cushions and the fabric is cooling Gel and now there . There absolutely out of this world now . It was a major game changer for sure and there thicker so you ears don’t touch that little piece on the speaker anymore . And I can use them on my ps5. I use them to watch tv late at night through the blue tooth and I use it on my pc there well worth the money and the OLED display on the unit is awesome too best headset for 2024 and the battery life lasts me 22 hours no problem and you got two batteries all the time fully charged so you never have to worry about having to stop playing

little advice on the console only gamers side: turn down your own mic volume on the DAC to 8 or 9 and it will be a lot clearer and less distorted for others in party char if you go lower than 7 you have to speak loudly for it to pick everything up or you will cut out a lot

I would like to add my experience with the Nova Pro Wireless and maybe I helps to make up your mind. I am focusing mainly on the sound quality. Well, it is a gaming device, but I wanted a headphone which also is good for listening to music. I think, when music sounds good, a game also sounds good. I bought mine Nova Pro Wireless about 2 hours ago and I am currently listening to Ted Nugent`s Stranglehold and wow: That rocks. Before I heard School Days from Stanley Clarke and the baseline of that song is presented just sharp, present and so powerful. WOW. I switched from the Artics 9 wireless, which I had for 4 days this week, coming from a 30 Dollars headphone, which I used for years, now I spent 375 Euros in Germany, but it needed to be. The Arctis 9 Wireless was not so bad but I wanted more punch, more power, more clarity, just a better headphone. And I felt in love with wireless. And I knew that I had to accept some flaws compared to a wired headphone. What I strongly recommend besides all those great rewies - this included - if possible test not only whether the headphone fits to your head, test the sound, listen to your favourite music in the shop if possible. Wait some days, do not buy without testing and listening for yourself. I did not follow my advice, I wanted a new headphone and I wanted it now. :) If I had given me more time and would have looked for opportunities to listen to headphones I am interested in I think that I would have bought another headphone, and mybe I would have spent more money. Neverthelesse the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless delivers a really sharp and powerfull sound, IF the source has the appropriate quality. !!!!!!!!! To my taste it lacks a little of capabilities in the mid and higher range. On the other hand, I still know HOW Stanley Clarke and Ted Nugent sound when delivered through a three channel bass reflex box and I doubt that even a Audeze Penrose can cope with that. Last but not least technically the headphone and the wireless base station work well together and are easily adjustable and controlable. Compared to the Arctis 9 wireless, which is 200 Euros cheaper, I like the Nova Pro Wireless better: It sounds better, has more power, the design is better, functionality is good and control buttons are placed in an ergonomical way. Further I do not feel those ANC nipples inside the speakers. I am wearing it right now for about 2 hours and do not feel any uncomfortness. But it fits a bit tight, just a littel bit tight. Hope I could give some useful information.

I bought a set of the wireless a couple weeks ago. Been messing with the settings using the steel series gg software. If you go into the sonar settings on this headset and switch on the spatial sound, it makes a world of difference as far as immersive sound goes. I usually run fps games so I run a cod Warzone preset with my eq set on focus. I find that for me I like it best if i toggle the spatial sound completely to performance and up the bass boost to 6.0. But a little tweaking there should get you to the sound profile that fits your style best

I don’t have the same take as you for the comfort. They feel the exact same to me with the exception to the pleather ear pads. And just because you like cloth ear cups don’t mean everyone else don’t think that’s not premium. When you buy a luxury car, is it leather seats or cloth seats?

So glad I found this review. I'm definitely considering it. I've used A40s for the last 4 years. Finally my white gen 3 TRs with mixamp pro started to bug out. My mom got me gen 4 as a Christmas gift but it's unusable. It has old firmware and the microphone won't work on xbox and the Astros command center is AWFUL! It will NOT update the firmware and this is an issue Astro has known about for years now. So I'm planning on returning them and picking up steelseries instead. Super crushed about Astro though😕

I just returned astro a40s as well. That damn mixamp won't update. I ended up getting the nova pros. Astros have a lot better bass. I used a50s for years. Loved that headset but the battery life went to heck. I moved to a40s/returned them then bought novas. Some people swear the nova pro sounds as better than astros but I got to disagree, I think astros sound like 'you're in the game' but novas help with enemy footsteps a little better. Grenades feel like bombs with astros and grenades feel like firecrackers with novas. Some people prefer that but I like a little more immersive. Hope that helps with decision. Novas are good. Especially after I messed with the settings but astros got the bass. competitive=novas immersive=astros

Sooooo fingers crossed because my Astros were bought on a killer sale and I'd hate to have to drop an extra $70 for Steelseries. I love my Astros gen3 for 4 years and didnt wanna change brand. However I'd probably not recommend Astros to friends and family😂

@@porkmaster4312 they actually do work! They new warranty ones they sent still had the old firmware but for some reason, instantly worked on the ACC to update! So I'm happy to FINALLY have my product😅 hoooooweverrrrrr.....I could not in good conscience recommend Astros to anyone after my experience since it took close too 3 weeks to have a properly functioning mixamp pro again. On the bright side, I have a spare headset and all the cables in case they fail in the future!

I might get the wired Nova Pro for my birthday. Had my Astro A50's for two years now, been very happy with and would continue using it as my ps5 headset… I also think the Nova has a even better sound and would be a big improvement there on my pc setup. I also like the dac it’s really cool 🤔 and if my ears are getting too sweaty in those earcups I heard u cam also put in the airweave cushions from the arctis pro, but in general I hope it'll be a good decision :) greetings from Germany btw, really like your videos!

I tried the headset and wasn't really a fan of the sound. I think because I prefer more bass, This headset leans more toward the highs. Didn't matter if I tried adjusting the settings, It just wasn't the sound I prefer. The VZR model one and HyperX Orbit S are my go to headsets. Both have a good sound stage and have more bass, Which is perfect for me. I will say that the comfort is improved on the Nova Pro, I was never a fan of the comfort on the Arctis Pro Wireless.

Each to their own, but im so glad they went with leatherette over cloth. I sweat regardless, so id rather have leatherette where i can wipe the sweat off, where as the cloth works like a sponge, cloth also seems gather skin cells whereas i think the smoothness of leatherette will not. Im just really hoping the arm to the ear cups dont break like on the pro's, i had 4 sets break there n it was all over reddit too.

I've heard people complain about the wireless version because of the noise canceling mic on the inside of the earcups sticks out and can touch your ears. Also the wireless version has the earpads mount with a proprietary plastic ring, while the wired version uses a standard mounting system.

Finally got this headset from amazon yesterday and its a let down for me. The earcups become hot and uncomfortable after 4 hours which is like 4-5 valorant matches and the leather earcups blockout a lot of sound even with noise cancelation off. Personally I've never found noise cancelation on a gaming headset to be accurate on sound. Also the headset does not sound as good as the A40's or A50's do on a digital optical output cable vs the Nova's USB connection. So not only do they not sound good they're uncomfortable also and for $350 I would have expected the headset to cover at least the 2 most important things. I'll be returning these and looking for a diff headset since I cant imagine how uncomfortable they'll be with summer heat coming up.

The Arctis Nova & wireless may not have the Optical Out Port. But the Line-in port can be used as Alternative if you have a Audio DAC like the Monster ADC & DAC as an example. I tried this method with my PS3 on Mortal Kombat (because I was playing that XD) & tried out inFamous: Festival of Blood and the sound was immersive for the Digital (Optical) audio being converted to Analog Audio

I have used the Astro A40 tr for Xbox in many years, but the Xbox Series X comes without an optical port, so now i find the Astro complete useless! They absolutely need optical cable on the Xbox to be any good for gaming... Do You think that I will be happy with the SteelSeries Nova Pro Wired?

Ya get leatherette because the wireless ones have ANC and mesh/fabric earpads isn't conducive to ANC. SS isn't making cloth for them YET and most third parties aren't wanting to make replacements as they need to tool up the same mechanism that SS uses for attaching the pads. They aren't using the same pad attachement as the old Arctis family

Better as far as comfort, not including the earpads, yes. Sound quality I would say significantly better than the DT 770’s but not as good as Hifiman Sundara’s with an amp. I think the best way to go is a Planar Magnetic headphone that’s open back

No more SPDIF output and this is clearly a stepback compare to old version caused by Sony and Microsoft. They removed SPDIF port on console. They added Tempest 3d audio / 360 audio which try to make cheap headset sound decent but it clearly cut the quality of high-end audio device. They also decided to not implement display port which results in having to chose between sound quality with audio extractor(currently there's no audio extractor supporting hdmi 2.1 on the market) or image quality (4k 120hz supported via hdmi 2.1). This can be explain by the fact that Sony is a brand of television and television already got SPDIF port on them. Headset constructor decided to invest on something that will be cross platform. At least, Xbox support USB UAC2 which makes Astro mix amp and others amp/dac to work. Sony is still using UAC1 and almost none of the amp/dac supports it anymore. In my point of view, the current gen console is a shame. This is caused by old school company wanting to keep the market for themselves. Another thing tha proves my point is that the PS5 still doesn't support 2k native resolution.

idk why but for the experience ive had with the arctics nova pro, i prefer my old headset arctics 5, it just has somehow better sound quallity and comfort than the nova pro currently. however the nova pro does have rly good surround sound. so when ive heard a bunch of youtubers say that the arctics nova pro had top sound quallity, i kinda was dissapointed since it was on a noticable lvl of a difference. guess since the nova pro is still fairly new of a product id expect them to be releasing bunch of software updates to it so it has potentiall to be actually top tier.

note when i got the arctics nova pro's when i was setting it up it did ask as of wheter i lived in eu or america and they did warn bout the sound volume dropping on eu. so i don't know if that would affect my sound experience,(i chose eu since i do live in eu) if i reset it and chose the american area. idk if it would have a different noticable quallity.

The leatherette is because they wanna go for more bass and it gives more noice cancellation. It's not firstly for comfort even if some prefer it for that too. I tried to swap my hyper xcloud alpha pads with fabric one and it chznged the sound signature alot. Destiny 2 guns just screeched in my ears so had to swap back. 🤢

I have a pair of the wireless one's and there's no heat build up until i'm wearing them a few hours. I do live in Ireland though so it's not exactly a warm climate even in the summer time. Very comfortable headset for me.

I got the wireless version of this headset a few days ago. Quite a hefty price but it’s a good headset so far. There is one fault with it that doesn’t effect me but will effect others. It’s ANC feature requires small microphones to be put into the ear pads and from what I read, a lot of people returned them due to this. Buyer beware, your ears might brush against these nubs and make for a uncomfortable experience. Still a shame they couldn’t add in maybe a Cooling Gel ear pad set for the Nova Pros.

Gen 2 Max has a lot more immersive bass and is a little bit more closed in terms of the sound stage. I would put these on equal playing field with the Astro A40’s having wide open sound stage and crystal clear audio but a bit less immersive

it mostly depends on the game, like some games has raise and lower vc volume for certain people. but if that's what you're after you don't directly need to get the nova pro set as long as you have steelseries. since the sonar does have the options to controll your team mates voice chatt lvl. including how they sound to you.

I have steelseries artic9x not the nova pro and recently purchased the a50 and I’m gonna return the astros I think it’s all preference the astros sound good but I like more of a crisp sound if you play fps games and trying to hear footsteps I’d go with steelseries not saying astros are bad but if you like more punchy bass the astros are the way to go but if you like positional awareness of enemy’s the steel series are a better option I believe (never follow a trend) everyone’s different what’s great for me won’t always be great for you and vice versa.

Not sure, probably tho because I think Atmos is just software. In SS Sonar you can configure the surround sound very nicely and increase or decrease the effective distance of it as well!

The plastic on top of the Astros has been very cheap lately. I don't remember the paint peeling off back in OLDER models. Need to get some Nova Pros, heard nothing but good things about them.

You missed a huge pc fact. High res audio in the wired that doesn't come on the wireless. The wired are way better audio experience.

Did you test them both so you could hear a difference? I don't think so. Hight res audio is marketing at its best. No one tries to check if it's really better (spoiler : it's not, in terms of experience).

The sounds are gross on these compared to a40tr, if Astro would just produce a better inline cord I wouldn’t feel ripped tf off with my a40s. Returning these arctic nova pros first thing in the morning the sounds are terrible

I typically run hot and I have no problems with leather cushions and I live in SoCal. My PC is a space heater too running a 3080 and a 5900x. I also have an Unraid server sitting on the floor with 12 hard drives in it. I wouldn't blame the leather cushions. It's more like something your body just doesn't like.
