I love many artists, musicians, and bands but this is my long time fav band ;)

All time classic on that melody alone!

What a lovely arrangement to allow that backup singers get to shine. Very generous of Mr. Fagan.

Donald Fagan didn’t sing the original, so it would sound different if he did. Probably why he let others sing it.

All of the concerts I've been to the backup singers sing this song! It also gives Donald's voice a rest.

This is one of the Dans great tunes. It works for both female vocalists and male.

this just doesn't have the punch. it's too pretty. it's an angry song at heart. that's lost in this version.

For all the criticism here about the vocalists [who are actually fine]...The song stands alone on its beauty imo no matter who's singing. I wish tho that there was a 'clearer' version of this performance.

Vocals need to dial it back. Period.

That said steely Dan is at its best a studio band. An exceptional studio band. And fagan and Becker were well aware of this.

The first album, Donald didn’t sing all the songs, another singer sang lead on Can’t Buy a Thrill

This song (Dirty work) was sang by David Palmer. But I reckon this is the only (SD) song Palmer is famous for. Left SD in '73 and much later - 2014 - even sued SD not unsuccessfully for not paying royalties. SD were known for their...let's say 'economical rewardings' for musicians they hired.

I like this. It's more a jazz tune in this arrangement than the R&B original - in the same way that the Steely Dan of 2019 is more of a jazz band than the R&B Steely Dan of 1972. And, like the original, Donald Fagen doesn't sing it; someone with a more conventionally "good" voice does instead.

Love the way Donald Fagen deliberately sets out to look as much like Ray Charles as possible.
