R.I.P. - Walter Becker (February 20, 1950 - September 3, 2017) "Walter Becker was my friend, my writing partner and my bandmate since we met as students at Bard College in 1967," Donald Fagen wrote in a tribute to Becker. "He was smart as a whip, an excellent guitarist and a great songwriter. He was cynical about human nature, including his own, and hysterically funny."

Okay, so a couple weekends ago I finally watched the movie this is based on, Gaslight (1944), starring Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer. It's pretty cool if you like old black and white movies, but I can't help thinking it's long overdue for a remake. If I were the new director, I'd keep it set in the Victorian era but with a screenplay more along the lines Steely Dan has re-imagined it here-adding a love triangle, more elaborate trickery, a dose of dark humor, and of course a spookier atmosphere-and I'd aim for an early fall release. Yes, yes, all very good! Now, who would I cast in the lead roles? Hmmm... ;)

OMGoodness! This is so funky! In this tune, Donald Fagen's voice reminds me of Steve Arrington 😁. It's so cool.

Poster thatMimosaGrove: Thank you for posting. The drug mentioned in the song is Dilaudid. Good stuff. ;-)

Yeah, that's what I thought... although the lyrics on Steely Dan's official website say "Deludin," which could be a corruption of Dilaudid or just a made up name, not sure. I remember questioning if Dilaudid was strong enough for what's implied in the song-but I'll be happy to take your word for it!

Deludin is a tablet that contains 4mgs of Hydromorphone; a generic for Dilaudid. It's a very potent narcotic pain reliever. So yes - it is Dilaudid.

This could be a terrific video, but vs. 2 is missing at 0:51 and the text is completely off thereafter. If that was corrected - wow!

So just how tight is Steely Dan? While musicologists have been unable to devise a chart large enough to register the band's tautness, we do know they're tighter than a Victorian bad girl's corset. And somehow, something made of whalebone seems apropos as a unit of steam-powered dildoic measure. Also, it's possible I've had too much wine.
