Most Steely Dan songs are an absolutely treasure trove of harmonic bounty! (Yeah, I know, sticking with the 'yacht rock' thing...but, whatever, Steely Dan's catalogue is superb and a heck of a challenge for most musicians, so, um, sail on, me hearties!)

This is one of those “songs of my youth”, you know didn’t really pay much attention until I got older. Steely Dan was just one of those bands with such a unique sound for the era. Great tutorial.🤘🏻❤️🎶

Dude thanks for this. I’m as died-in-the-wool metalhead as anyone else, but Steely Dan has been an all time favorite of mine for decades. You should do Babylon Sisters next, there’s some tasty chord progressions in the verses that are played on a Rhodes, it would be cool to hear that with guitar.

Man, you could go through Steely Dan's entire catalog as far as I'm concerned!! Their stuff is a master class in "grown up" chord changes.

Thanks for putting out an arrangement that can be played solo. Steely Dan made a lot of music with some of the best musicians of their era, so playing along with them and sounding decent is usually not possible. This sounds great and is "do-able" for old unskilled hands like mine. Thanks! Now do Nuno's new solo on Rise 🙂

ALSO I love that you don’t have sponsors keeping your videos going, just your Patreon. I’m sure you’d make more money and I would TOTALLY understand, but not seeing an Uncle Ben style video for Morgan and Morgan or Raid Shadow Legends is a real benefit to me as a Patreon sub.

The cool bit to me is that bands like Steely Dan used to actually use these sorts of chords. Today, a lot of bands are scared by the idea of a G9 or an A11 chord. "G9?! A11?! What is that?!!!"

Great timing on this one! After 30 years of playing I started working on the Mickey Baker JAZZ book so I could expand my chord vocab. This a great song to put them to use. 2 weeks ago I didn't know 1/2 these chords (at least not by name). Well done!

I don't know if it counts as a yacht rock track, but Donald Fagen's "True Companion" from the Heavy Metal soundtrack is actually the song that got me into Steely Dan. It probably isn't guitar-heavy enough compared to most Steely Dan songs, but damn are there some tasty licks and riffs in it.

That Hawaiian shirt rocks as much as the song. Do you have a lesson on finger picking? Mine sucks! After ten years off of playing guitar I would really like to learn the right way. Your lessons on alternate and sweep picking are stellar hopefully. You have one just as good for finger picking. Thanks again and as a patron I will definitely be looking forward to your next lesson.

Very nice. Dovetails nicely with your Mustaine video. JK. I have to admit I've let my jazz chops atrophy. Should be just like falling off a bike again. Good job. Any advice or rules about playing with your fingers? I got some classical training in college but this isn't the same. Then I found out Beck when all fingers in the 80s. And....what about nail care? I ask because I like mine short.
