ANGLE GRINDER: amzn.to/4a78WLB DRILL: amzn.to/4abFlQS WIRE WHEEL: amzn.to/3IB4DMM We are turning trash into treasure! Or building supplies that is. We are building a tiny house out of pallets and need joist hangers, but they are too expensive for our small budget. So instead, we decided to Make our Own Concealed Joist Ties out of scrap, salvaged angle iron. These will be about 2 1/2 mm thick! Extra strong and almost free. #steepinthewoods #diy #trashtotreasure Pallet House Playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLV4FMljAnPaMTCNUAj1E_g6tkOPN8YIdh Website: www.steepinthewoods.com/ *SPRING KITS NOW FOR SALE* Donate through paypal: www.paypal.me/SteepInTheWoods Buy T Shirts: teespring.com/stores/my-store-10061584 Become a Member kzbin.info/door/Z_OUIxS6UyIe4uOP6NabpQjoin Our Amazon Storefront: www.amazon.com/shop/steepinthewoods Amazon Wishlist: www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/22G319KHMP2NN?ref_=wl_share Or hit the like & subscribe button! **DISCLAIMER** This video and description contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links, I’ll receive a small commission. SAS! Yes, we do have sassafras trees on the property. This upcoming year we're going to try and add quite a few products to the website We still have some more research to do on the legalities of certain things.. But if at all possible I'd love to share my passion of herbology with you guys. And offer what we can on the website. Not just limited to dry products but also seeds and live plants if possible.
@SteepintheWoods
@SteepintheWoods 10 ай бұрын
I will do my best to add that to the website this summer! I still haven't looked up the legalities of everything, but I do know if nothing else, I can cut you some fresh pieces and sell them as "root cuttings" at that point whether or not you plant them or dry them out once you have them is your own affair. And if you think of anything else be sure to let me know!

You are amazingly helpful, and I'm so grateful you shared this build. You are the only person on KZbin I've come across that legitimately figures things out, uses what is available, AND actually explains what you're doing. Thank you so much.

This is the third video of yours that I am watching and in each one I seem to be learning something new. I just watched the first minute and fourty seconds and I like what you said about rusty things. How being rusty "means nothing". I like the concept of removing the rust and making things rust proof so you can still use them.

Very informative thank you, love your ingenuity, collecting pallets to get my 10x15 sheshed built , my cheap Chinese one well my foot fell thru the floor 🤨 loved how you jumped up and down on yours and it held fast. My funds are just not there either but boss giving me free pallets so collecting them and going to get er done.

Still checking city codes in my area, but as far as I know I can build a living or storage area with no permit as long as it's under 200 square feet and not more than 15 feet tall. I'm loving this tower, I've got an idea about a central staircase going to the actual structure of 12 x 16 surrounded by a wrap around balcony, which is not considered with square feet. My problem will begin with electrical, however I'm looking at complete solar for lighting and probably a modified coil for hot water. This is my first pallet structure and you have done wonders for me by making this. Thank you!

You are welcome! In most places you can build a small house without a permit provided it's on runners, (6x6's or similar) However you are correct about the electrical! When we sold our last tiny house the realtor strongly advised us to stop installing wiring and leave it as is. However that doesn't mean you can't have wiring I would just keep it as simple as possible versus trying to do it like everyone else does.

My house was built in the 40s it has has a lip supporting each joist with no metal hangers like you made in this video just your X type of cross members using 1x6 between each joist every 6ft or so still holding strong for a old house
@SteepintheWoods
@SteepintheWoods 10 ай бұрын
That's crazy! I'll be doing almost the exact same thing. Underneath of our second level joists I'm going to attach a piece of pallet board. Not only will that help increase the strength but more importantly, it will help disguise the fact that there's a store-bought 2x6 in our construction LOL Whenever possible I go for 'Overkill'! - Once done it'll have both brackets and a supporting lip.

@SteepintheWoods I like ur build videos I like the fact your getting the same if not better results of doing thangs a fraction of the cost like my self I used these very strong 4ft by 8ft drywall pallets to make a roof with screwed down 1/2 plywood on top then I put billboard sign vinyl over it like a tarp and fastened the sides down with simple screws and washers for a 7ft by 24ft firewood hut/shed

I have a container i need to fix up, its sat on the ground (was here before we aquired the property) and the floor is rotting out. Problem is its full. I have space and access to pallets. Over the summer i'll fix up a shed i have already and ill build a temporary shed out of pallets. Have picked up a lot of tips from these videos, thank you kindly.

Another interesting video 🙂 Is there a special reason why you put the angle iron inwards to hide behind the beam and not to the outside of the corner so you can se both edges in the corner? just curious. A god tip to get more iron for free is if you have a snowmobile dealer nearby they always get the machines in steel cages made by angle iron square tubing and rectangular tubing of different sizes and of good quality, i got alot of them for free. Made me a good pair of garage door with metal frame of it strong ligth and cheap construction. Did see a video of a guy that was insulating his walls with grinded styrofoam packing material, he grinded it with an electric lawnmower turned upside down blowed it in sacs poured and packed it in the walls. Styrofoam has good insulation capacity, its not fireproof but if you put plasterboard on the inside of the wall that should not be a problem. He built a garage with double layer of pallets bottom to inside in the wall wood panel on outside osb and plasterboard on inside of wall. We do still have plenty of winter but sun is starting to warm up and the snow is melting away. If your interested in some fun motoring with cars rockets and other cool stuff check out Speed weekend in Arsunda Sweden i was there with my 1965 Galaxie convertible (blue and white) racing on the ice it was good fun. Keep up your interesting tower build looking forward to the next video. 🙂

Just wondering your homemadebrackets you made should they not have been placed the other way so that there was no chance of the board slipping through the bottom of the two brackets on each end not an expert so could be wrong

Cool deal, I’ve never seen anyone pre drill for nails?
@SteepintheWoods
@SteepintheWoods 10 ай бұрын
Usually you don't need to pre-drill holes. However I split the difference, I put twice as many nails as the board would usually accept without damage for the extra holding power.. And to make up for that I pre-drilled the holes and therefore reduce the stress on the board itself.

Joist hanger needs a bottom, especially if you aren't shear nailing. Good idea, but not a safe hanger
