I met Smolik at Hackettstown skate park in NJ back in 97-98. At the time, Shortys team was doing their Fulfill the Dream tour. Smolik was doing some techy innovative ledge tricks that, to this day, I still haven't seen anyone do besides him.

The absolute stranglehold of influence this guy had over my life in the golden era. I'll always be a Smolik fan. Still have a crisp OG dice deck packed away & an RLP hanging on my wall. Peter needs to bless us with an other modern small part.

Me and few of my mates had a pleasure of meeting him back in a day in Prague, Czech Republic where he apparently came for a family reunion or somewhat. We skated together and partied together and all I can say he is an animal on his board so he is when he parties. The best part of it all was he's fucking super friendly with us as he wouldn't let anyone feel like any different even tho he's such a legend. I will never forget thas. Respect Pete!

His style and unique way of letting his body move ahead of his deck was pure gold back in the 90’s. I admired him then as I do now. Just love watching him ebb and flow through any environment. Keep pushing my brother.

What i enjoy most about this part is how much more relatable it is to many more skaters. Gives me something I can at least attempt to emulate, unlike parts filled with 20 set hand rails.
@11Rogue-Disciple1117 күн бұрын
Around my way (in the hood) majority of whoever skated did mostly tech style skating. We mostly didn't do the gnar stuff bcz low income folks couldn't afford insurance & doctor visits. So we mostly related to skaters like Smolik & the like. This seems to be case with most skaters in the urban sectors of society
@Bb186fo16 күн бұрын
Ive said this for years, as impressive as those dudes are who go insanely big non stop, its the steezy, look like they're actually having FUN dude's who actually make you wana go skate! Its relatable! One of my favorite parts of all time is another Shorty's guy, Sammy Baptista and his part from Fulfill The Dream! Made me HAVE TO go skate every time i watched it!

@Asicasters7 күн бұрын
I remember watching Menikmate when it first came out and Ronnie Creager's last trick was kickflip in and out of a backtail slide (admittedly, a really cool one). I remember thinking to myself, didn't Peter Smolnik do that same trick a few years ago in a Shorty's video in the middle of his part, not even slo-mo? The guy was definitely years ahead of his time, I think it's his style that kept it from aging well. I personally don't have any issues with his style, but I think it's pretty different than most popular styles today of ultra clean, super smooth roll-away kind of thing.

there's also some good clips in TWS Cinematographer (danny minnick section) as well as Daryl Grogen's 'Live Animation' (1998). There are also several clips from fulfill the dream that weren't in his part should have like the fs 360 he does over the Clmt bump over pole and the footage from his Thrasher sequence (bs 180 switch croox on marston raquetball court bench). Not sure if you added any clips from his 'Troubleshooters' part

Back then the standards weren’t as high for clean tricks. He shoulda redone a lot of those tricks. Not that his steez was bad on tic tacs or no slides or flop shuv outs or under rotation but it would look wayyy better clean. When he stomps a clean trick it’s top notch. Been a fan since the 90’s
