Stefan Struve faced undefeated prospect, Stipe Miocic at UFC on Fuel TV 5 on September 29, 2012. The opening stanza saw Miocic slightly edge Struve in a competitive stand-up battle, until the second round when Struve utilized his reach more effectively and became more aggressive. He won the fight via TKO in the second round. The performance earned both participants "Fight of the Night" honors.

Unfortunately for him he never got the chance because Struve never got anywhere, whereas Miocic went off to accomplish greater things. By the end of it all Struve had to retire due to health issues, whereas Miocic is still a top Heavyweight despite losing to Ngannou.

I think he's too tall,The reach and height is an advantage in boxing and kickboxing but it's much harder to sprawl takedowns when you're tall like that.Plus his chin is good but no great for heavyweight standards

Stefan really have lot of potential this fight prove that... but looks like the guy sometimes didn't using his reach for advantage and that's why many fighters still can touch his chin

Struve had negative fight IQ as well. He constantly went for flying knees and getting into close range with shorter opponents (exposing his suspect chin) instead of using his reach. Health problems stemming from his abnormal height didn't help either.

I used to train with Fred Jacks back in the day and he had an extensive career. He had over 200 ring battles in England and Europe. I knew him by many names Stoker Jacobs, Eddie Welch, and Sailor Jacks.

@רחבעם he had a spontaneous congestive heart failure not uncommon for larger than usual individuals. He recovered and was able to fight again but never the same.

@רחבעם if you watch mma you should know that Arlovski who was brutally knocked out by prime Fedor in the very first round that Arlovski before that fight against fedor defetead Fabricio Werdum. So when you are talking about prime Fedor you should know much more and than talk about him

@@nirogalactoid8398 did you happen to forget that stipe beat ngannou four fights before ngannou beat him, being one of only 3 people to beat him? he also beat junior dos santos, mark hunt, andrei arlovski, fabricio werdrum, alistair overeem, daniel cormier and francis ngannou, those are some of the best heavyweights of all time in the UFC, and jon jones just called stipe the greatest heavyweight of all time tonight after his win over gane.

Once a fighter’s been rocked a few times, it takes less to rock them again in subsequent fights. Both great fighters. Fantastic fight. I thought Stipe was big, but the other -even bigger Anyhow, if I ever had to fight either one of them, I’d need a gun. Yea, I’m American. lol

The majority of the MMA fans today have been influenced by guys like McGregor, O'Malley, and Pimblett. I remember when Johnny Hendricks had the most lethal left hand in the sport, before McGregor. I know he was on the juice and all, but I'll forever be a fan of his for knocking tf out of boring ass Jon Fitch, who at the time was the top welterweight in the world just under GSP.

According to FightMatrix, he is, but there are more then few asterixes to his career: he never fought in the UFC, he dodged Overeem fight, he dodged Cro Cop rematch, he dodged PRIDE FC 2006 OWGP, he postponed his first PRIDE FC title defense for a year and 8 months (meaning he didn't want to fight neither Cro Cop nor give Nogueira his rematch), he ran from Cro Cop for 2 and half years, during his PRIDE FC reign, he never fought Barnett, Werdum, Kharitonov and Wanderlei (Nogueira fought all Barnett, Werdum and Kharitnovov, while Cro Cop fought Barnett and Wanderlei), he also dodged superfight with Rua in 2005/6, while at the same time fighting Zuluzinho's, Nagata's, Valaviciuses and had rematch with old Coleman, extremely overrated career, and he could have lost his number 1 spot already in 2007 when he fought middleweight Lindland (who gave him lot of problems) and Choi Hong Man (total mma rookie), while Couture fought Top 3 Gonzaga and Top 5 Sylvia that year.

The reach advantage is intimidating and, as we can see, 3:25 whenever he'd look down to attack the body of Struve that's when he couldn't see what Struve was going to do and left himself open to counters. Struve's gaurd was blocking shots up top early on in the fight so when Stipe began focusing on the body Struve easily punished him.

He'd give fighters benefit of the doubt, until people complained he let fighters take too much damage. So he started stepping in earlier and the same people complained about early stoppages. Herb is as good as they come.

Wow dudes & dudettes now that is what I call the tallest MMA Fighter also known as Stefan Skyscraper he is known for both Kickboxing & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and his nickname was once call Skyscraper and the good reason he goes by that name because he is 7 foot tall mma fighter sad that he had to retire from mma fighting he should have worked out more and stand a chance more and maybe learn: [Boxing, Muay Thai & Taekwondo] knowing there are some Dojo's or Gyms or a place that is a bit of much that can teach too tall people to know martial arts such as: [Taekwondo, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing & Kickboxing] so yeah those are the only martial arts too people can learn for some at there size in some Dojo's or Gym's so that they can learn it and for in any mma matches it would have been for this too tall mma dude but what's done is done he is done and gone i already feel sorry for this dude and get this Combat Sports Company is changing the rules on Kickboxing they are banning both elbow strikes and knee strikes now that can't be right what is Kickboxing without those two in Kickboxing now it is not going to be the same anymore now that just sad and it should totally be question don't you think so dudes & dudettes.!?¡¿ ♤♡♧◇€£₩¥☆

Exactly. I saw in an interview where someone asked him if he beats Jones should he be considered the greatest fighter of all time... I'm sitting here like dude might not even be the greatest heavyweight of all time. Lost to Struve, Cormier, Dos Santos and Ngannou. I don't think Jones loses to those guys. The heavyweight division in general has never been that great. I think if Jones would have decided to fight at heavyweight early in his career he would have walked through the division the same way he did at light heavyweight. Jones is the greatest of all time and it's not even close.
