Another little tip: mark the center of gravity of the outer wing with a dot, then you will always know exactly where to hold it. Helps when lifting out of the trailer and hanging it back into the trailer.

We once called such constructions an "Ich-hab-keine-Freunde-Aufbauhilfe". But that is now a long time ago. Seems to be in fact a very useful tool nowadays. Have fun!

Of course it is more fun to rig the glider with a friend. But having the option to rig or de-rig the glider by yourself is a great advantage. And of course with the heavy wings it is more healthy to use the aids.

Sure comes in handy all these one man rigging tools, but its is probably going a lot quicker with some help of good friends, and probably is also more fun 🙂 Also When staying on one airfield, you probaby will park it covered in Jaxida or Cloud dancer hail and moisture proof covers. But an awesome machine you got yourself! The SteFly business must be going very well ;-) From Libelle to LS3 to AS33ME...in just 10 years or so. quite a quick carreer that is! But you still also have your LS3, right? because I saw you competing in the clubclass from Burg Feuerstein the past week. I am still flying my Mini Nimbus since 2006, Loads of fun, and I even start to win gliding competitions with her the past few years! But maybe in a few years, if my Tesla shares explode! I love the JS3 RES and the Ventus 3 will probably also get a RES... As a Tesla driver, no gas engine ever for me!

Of course it is quicker and more fun to rig the glider with friends. But having the possibility to rig the glider by myself is very good if I want to start early during the week or if I come back from a travel by glider trip at a weekday. At competitions and when flying for more than one day, I would always use my Clouddancers covers.

@SteFly
@SteFly 13 күн бұрын
Vielen Dank!

Very practical indeed, wished I could do that with my vintage K6. Although I think it would be wise to rig the outer wings with 2 people if there's a stronger wind; they're quite large sails.
@thomasrobinson5673
@thomasrobinson5673 13 күн бұрын
As a k6 owner I don't see any reason why you couldn't. Other than the fact that gliding is a group sport so why would you and cost My k6 is set up as a 2 man rig. But add in a wing root dolly that can hold the wing vertical, wingtip dollies, the single man rigging aid and a second wingtip trestle and it seems doable. All you have to do is small adjustments to one wingtip trestle to simulate the guy holding the wingtip raising or lowering the tip and it's business as normal. The only real problem is a single man rigging aid probably costs more than my glider :)

Your new (modern) glider is SO much easier to rig than my 1972 Standard Cirrus! I do have it in a Cobra trailer, now, which has made rigging easier, but still, it's still a chore to put together (especially the control connections). My how technology has evolved - not just aerodynamically, but in the way the machines have been engineered. Also, I suspect your repositioning the cameras for the different shots took much longer than the rigging job itself. :) Thanks for sharing, Stefan!

Gliders, bombers, even the turbo weighs over 350 kg. Self-launch is a task for Anatolij from YT. The newest carbon fibers, the strongest carbon steel and the weight is growing and growing. Where will this lead? How much fun is it and how much is wrestling with heavy equipment?
@SteFly
@SteFly 7 күн бұрын
It is a lot of fun to fly heavy gliders at medium to good weather conditions. For normal XC flying and travel by glider trips it´s great not to have the necessity to fill a lot of water ballast into the wings. At very weak conditions this might be a disadvantage.
