When Tsitsipas smiles after Roger hits a backhand winner down the line... it's sweetness. He must've dreamt of meeting Federer as a boy... and here he is trading blows with his idol in a slam.

Pretty crazy that it still takes nearly 4 hours for an upcoming next gen player, playing probably the best match of his career (up to this point) to put away 37 year old Federer who was not at his best, Tsitsipas has of course proven he is a very good player since this match but it really makes you think that a 25 year old prime Federer pretty much mops the floor with almost anyone not named Nadal
@swastikbasu8972
@swastikbasu8972 2 жыл бұрын
Tsitsipas was 20 at this point, which is still a very immature age in tennis. Federer hadn't won any grand slam at the age of 20, QF being the farthest he had gone.
@MinorVoices

@@MinorVoices see, I am not a fan of Tsitsipas at all. My point is the gross assumption involved about a 25-yo Federer supposedly mopping the floor with everyone other than Nadal, based on these out of context matches, is just wrong, and extremely disrespectful.

4 set points for a 2-0 set lead, including a couple which he got back into a neutral rally - loses all of them and loses the match in 4 sets. Or third set unforced shank forehands at break point up. Fed demonstrating his mental muggery at its best. This one hurt. Some srs hq tennis here as well, at least tsitsipas too has a nice style and single handed bh

It’s amazing someone as old as Federer can compete pretty much head to head with the best today has to offer, when he is playing poorly. Feds prime would have gone 6-1,6-2, 6-0 against such an opponent. A testament to how good he used to be but also how good his competition was back then and the lack of raw talent populating the youthful at the top currently. Video game generation sucked the talent out of the pool allowing the kings of yesteryear a stay of execution.

@samy29987
@samy29987 3 жыл бұрын
@@owenl.8885 "weakest mentally out of the three" That is debatable. Federer has been playing for over 20 years and is still top 3 in the world at almost 40 years old. That means a lot of pressure to compete every time he is out on court since he can't play every tournament like he used to when he was younger and dominating the sport. He can still compete against Nadal and Djokovic at his age and can beat everyone else regularly. He lost 22 or 23 matches where he had match points? Sure. But he was one point away fron winning them too, meaning that he did plenty of really good things during all those matches up until those moments. And how many times have we seen Federer fight back when down in the score? Plenty. Also, Federer's playing style is way more aggresive than the other two and his defense isn't as amazing as theirs, this means he has to play more and more aggresive as time goes on. That causes him to miss more by nature. Its a cumulative of factors and way more complex than just saying: "he is mentally weak".
