AO has the best matches I swear ... duno maybe because it is the start of the tennis season and everyone is refreshed from having a break? .... Last year we had a banger after another culminating in the classic Fedal final (with a double comeback from both players simultaneously in the same tournament) ... quite a few surprises this year as well ... that Chung Zverev match was nice too!

@travisbickle5279
@travisbickle5279 5 жыл бұрын
MrAtaguas Because the important matches are all in the night session ... at the us open are all important matches in the daysession in the heat.even the nightsession in us open is very warm and unpleasant for the tennis players..and the us open had For years, no roof, then before 2015, it was also very windy .... And in my opinion for us tv spectators is the optics very important .... in the AO is tv camera pespektive better and clearer than the US open ... and the blue underground makes the AO very attractive the floor for the tv viewer

This is the most non-clutch match of his career for Djokovic probably. Losing two tie breaks convincingly and then getting broken on his last serve game in the second set? I would never think it's a Djokovic match seeing the scoreline.

It is rare to see Novak pushed around as he was at times during this match. Chung's timing was utterly on point, very few framed or off-center shots.

Chung had nothing to lose, he played calmly and relaxed, just like Istomin, who also sensationally beat Djokovic a year earlier. I don't connect these two defeats, but they are about the same. Chung attacked and defended well, used shortened ones, most importantly did not make blunders, like most of Djokovic's rivals. The victory is more than deserved.

Sadly this match took a major toll on Chung and he fell to Fed in the next round. As good as Chung was, even at full health he would have had a hard time getting past Fed's ultra aggressive attacking game and his 2.0 backhand. In that match, Fed overwhelmed Chung's mediocre serve and gave him no time to wind up his defensive game.

Djokovic has only ever been down by 2 sets to love at AO three times in his career. First was that 6-0 6-2 6-1 loss to Safin in 1R in 2005 at his first ever slam appearance. The second was vs Federer in 2007 when Fed was unstoppable at majors off clay (2006-2007 Roger won 6 out of 8 slams, only losses were both FO finals to Rafa). The third time Novak was down 0-2 in sets at AO was here vs Chung. In this match Novak was still dealing with that elbow issue that ruined most of his 2017 season, yet all three sets here were still so close. Even when he is not healthy he is so incredibly tough to beat at AO. Won the 2021 title with an abdominal tear too. And 2023 on a hamstring tear, producing arguably the highest level of tennis ever seen at AO. Terrifying stuff.

The Serb would then go on to win Wimbledon, Shanghai, Cincinatti, US Open, Australian Open, Madrid and Wimbledon in the space of 18 months, and reclaimed his position as world no.1. To achieve so much after surgery is simply remarkable, and in my eyes for this reason he is the greatest of all time
