I was looking for a travel guitar and found a couple of people on KZbin raving about this newer version of the guitar with a quilted top. Really solid instrument for the money.

@thomasdemartino6109
@thomasdemartino6109 5 жыл бұрын
Guitarburt The guitar handles very well and as misleading as this may sound, it feels like a Les Paul neck. I would argue that it certainly needs a friend job adjustment on some of the upper French as some notes are rubbing causing some dead spots. All in all, I will say that it’s certainly lives up to its name as the ultimate travel guitar because I haven’t had to worry at all about bringing it on a plane with me. I will also suggest that it is very difficult to buy strings for it because the double ball and strings are double the price of regular. I might suggest you spend a little bit more money and buy a string converter for the top. The one I just bought was for $75 at headless.com. It’s very easy to install but now I don’t have to worry about always keeping a spare double ball and string with me that I could break a string and fit a regular one through as well as tighten it with a wrench. I will also say that the pick ups need to be backed off a little bit from the string height because I feel that they have more tonality when you pull them back a little compared to directly against them. The The pick ups are very hot, yet not much tone with them. I have been reading a lot of articles about replacement pick ups for it from both Seymour Duncan and EMG. That could end up costing you an additional $200-$250 to get it to sound where you want, not including a proper friend job. Total spend, possibly $600.

How does the tone sound in comparison to the older graphite Steinberger models? I enjoyed your playing.
@thomasdemartino6109
@thomasdemartino6109 5 жыл бұрын
John Lopez John, thanks for your comment. I have never played the graphite version of the Steinberg but in looking at the prices of it on eBay, they look like they are a portly around three to $4000 in some cases. That’s way too much money I would spend for an instrument like this as I was only looking for a travel guitar. My main instrument is in Ernie Ball JP 15 my music man. That’s the most I would ever spend for a guitar but I use it for local shows near home. I’m very nervous traveling with that guitar in a hardshell case on an airplane. This guitar travels very well and fits beautifully in the overhead case. I mentioned to another person recently that you might want to look into getting it a proper rest job did you buy it, and if not interested in them consider new pick ups because these are a little bit rough but have to be pulled down away from the string a little bit to get more tone. Also, please know that, although it is a floating tremolo bar, it is very rigid. It does keep its tone as well as its tuning, but to divebomb if you would feel like you’re about to break it off. Since there are no traditional springs for this type of tremolo there’s nothing that you can do to loosen up that action. Perhaps they will come to some conclusions about that in the future but for now, not so much. I’ve been reading a lot of articles about replacement pick ups from Seymour Duncan for EMG that seem to be pretty good tone wise, but at the same time you’re looking at an additional investment of perhaps $250.
@thomasdemartino6109

The cool thing about this guitar is that it can be any level of instrument to anybody. If you don't like the stock pick-ups, you can change them out to meet your sound needs. The body, and the double-ball end stability is there already. If you were preferring something more rock, EMG's are great for that and that alone. If you're a utility player, and have a band playing top 40 songs, you might not want to go with the EMG's. Anyway, if you build it the way you want, I'm sure you'll keep it for a long time...

@thomasdemartino6109
@thomasdemartino6109 5 жыл бұрын
I’ll say that you could probably step on the tremolo bar and it will still come back in tune. It is definitely because of the double ball and strings that helps this cause, but the steel tremolo bridge doesn’t hurt this cause either.

I have a question based on something I read about this guitar on another video. Is this true? "One major flaw worth noting is that the tremolo bridge has an adjustable tension screw which can get stripped, at which point it no longer functions as a tremolo. You have to lock the bridge, at which point it's just a fixed bridge guitar and all that mechanism down there is wasted."
