I have it since september and it changed my life honestly. I'm disabled & a "normal" guitar is difficult for me, the body is "too big"/wide and now with this one it is SO easier. I can put it almost horizontally on a desk or something & I feel like I improved a TON (mostly because now I can see the strings). Honestly, I wouldn't live without it.

That people dislike these guitars is a great shame - I think they are incredibly well designed. One of the most cost effective, eco-friendly, practical and versatile instruments on the planet. Totally ahead of their time. A lovely demonstration too - You play that guitar so well. It sounds beautiful.

I own an original late 80's GL2 Steinberger. The sustain is phenomenal and its built like a tank. It breaks all the guitar builders 'rules' but sounds great and stays in tune perfectly in all conditions. Set it up once and never again.

If you play on stage, or just noodle around in your house, and have back pain, like I do sometimes, you need this guitar. I love Fender strats, teles, Les Pauls, etc, but im 55 years old, with back pain sometimes, and standing/walking around with a guitar on me hurts sometimes. But, with this Steinberger, its a pleasure to play. I can have it on me for hrs, and not feel anything, also, no neck dive at all. It stays in place. Awesome little guitar, plays and sounds great, and I have played many guitars for over 35 years now. I have two. a black one and a white one.

This is the best travel guitar ever made, by a *huge* margin. So much better than the "Traveler" guitars and their ilk, which have almost no tonal options, are a fucking nightmare to string, and have the tuning stability of an underwater piano. This thing has a functionally tremolo bar, an HSH pickup setup with tones of tonal options, and.... I love the pickups. I have a few 3K+ guitars, and this is one of my favorites to play. Fucking awesome guitars. One major flaw worth noting is that the tremolo bridge has an adjustable tension screw which can get stripped, at which point it no longer functions as a tremolo. You have to lock the bridge, at which point it's just a fixed bridge guitar and all that mechanism down there is wasted.

I bought a Steinberger guitar a couple of weeks ago, my goodness it turned out to be gold. Its the single best playing experience I’ve ever had on a guitar. That neck is something else. I hook up with a spark amp and dial in a lot of cleaner 80s styles and it sounds beautiful. I dial in some vintage amps and I’m again blown away by the clarity. It may not be something you’d play in public but its a dream to play and to record with.

About 15 years ago I bought a Hohner G3T for travel and it quickly became my No1 gigging guitar because the tonal range was beyond anything I'd encountered before - Ok its just pub gigs but it's done a lot. But being headless they hang differently and when I dinged a fret and it was away being fixed I got a temporary normal shaped guitar and just couldn't get on with it - The C of G was about 1 fret different and you can imagine the effect... Anyway I got a Steinberger Synapse (6 string - standard length) as my backup and once I removed the strap hook extender the two guitars feel completely interchangable - I'm not sure if it's because it's active but the Synapse has an even wider tonal range and has become my No1 gigging guitar for the last few years. They may look odd but the engineering elegance of the design is stunning in my opinion.

I've had one for a couple years now. FANTASTIC!. I have/had USA Jackson, Hamers, Fenders, also various imports hi and low end Ibanez ESP MII Hamer Echotone, Mexi Tele, EP LP...to name a few. And this guitar is among the better in playability and comfort. I use it in the office char, couch, band practice and a recording (as a scratch track but some of it might end up in the mix!). Traveling used in the front seat of an Equinox. ANd of course great on the plane. SO VERSATILE...will change your life. The neck is very solid, smooth and consistent all up and down, with nice big frets you dont; have to work too hard there! The trem is great and it stays in tune better than all my other guitars. String change is a breeze, and since I play with clean hands and wipe the guitar, I only change them once a year (or less). The pups are okay, I had a set of PRS SE bucker I put in..a bit of an upgrade. Not sure if better pups will do much more. It sounds great, handles clean, dirt and max gain with ease. It still brings you 90% of "tone" that any standard guitar gives. Two cons: middle pup very weak. And the fine tuners a bit stiff. a bit of oil helps and you don;t have to use them often. All in all, 9.5 in every way.

I got my Spirit GT Pro Quilt Top in Limited Edition Natural finish. (From AMS) It was on back order for months. They eventually sent me one they found in the warehouse. Excellent guitar, but has some flaws. Pickups sound quiet and cheap, while also transmitting unwanted vibration noise. The pickup selector switch has a short on the bridge side. String action was crazy high, like it was celebrating April the 20th. No broken strings. But the strings that came on it have now oxidized since owning it. (Almost 2 years.) Overall the guitar is worth owning, if you fix/modify the issues. When properly adjusted it will hold tune regardless of dive-bombing and tremelo use.

Had the Hohner version a few years back. One of my all time favourite guitars and I’ve owned about 50. Glad they reissued the Spirits - going to pick one up next month. Don’t really understand all the hate from everyone for double ball ends though. One of the best innovations in the history of guitar - all the benefits totally justify paying twice the price of normal strings.. I mean strings are dirt cheap anyway. Unless you one of those weirdos who changes strings every week, I guess.

Pixxy, your the perfect guitar sales person. I'm pretty sure Paul Stanley was playing these in the late 80's (way back before the lip syncing final Kiss tour). During some unmasked era concerts he was playing multiple versions of this guitar. Either he was paid to play these or he was having that hip problem from all those years of playing heavy instruments on stage. Pauls had multiple hip surgeries and I know someone in your audience will know the full and complete story. But strangely in seeing you have one I want one as well.

@@jamesmarcin4787 If you look up on KZbin, KISS - Live in Schweinfurt 1988/08/27 [Monsters of Rock '88] You will see Paul plays a whole concert with a number of these guitars. It's also a really interesting time because Pauls at his vocal maturity, he's singing the absolute best in this unmasked era of Kiss and his songwriting was amazing. With Eric on the drums and Bruce doing guitar it was awesome. Bruce unlike Tommy Thayer wasn't trying to mimic Ace's style of playing and that's why Bruce is very much respected. I have always thought when Kiss dropped the makeup all of a sudden the music shone through. We didn't know it at the time but this was Kiss at it's best in many ways. Very dynamic on stage and playing like a very hungry band again. Dropping the makeup did wonders, but so did putting it back on with Peter and Ace back in the band. Curiously there are comments on that live concert video that say they hate Pauls headless guitar, but counter comments indicate it has a great sound. Maybe that exactly what Pixxy Steve is letting us know in this video. The concert also uses Detroit Rock City as the final song. It proof that that song is the perfect concert starter or end song. The tempo and Pauls singing in that version is totally amazing.

@@leokimvideo ,I been a fan since 1976 and I agree with your thoughts about Kiss. I saw that video many times Of Paul using that guitar. I was also at his solo show in Brooklyn in 1989 when he used it. Eric Singer on Drums before he was a member of Kiss and Bob Kulick on Guitar . I was 19 y/o Kiss has been a big part of my life and it is a little sad that this is their last tour. Paul is definitely using backing tracks. Kind of mixes them in when he has to hit high notes. A casual Kiss fan wouldn't even notice unless you watch the videos on You Tube with the person pointing it out I went to the Philly show and had great floor seats and I didn't spend a fortune. I kind of lucked out. Bought them the second they went on sale. The show was awesome. The best production I seen in years from them. Glad I went this last time.🎸🎶

@@jamesmarcin4787 I agree this last show is an amazing looking show, it's very much the art of distraction going on to zap the audience into not looking at whats really going on. Pauls lip sync dramas and video breakdows I have seen on KZbin have been very curious. Even what's more curious is how now in the tour Pauls doing whatever he can to add bits to the songs, but the same sync track is still playing master of the show. A big show like that with so many lighting, rigging and pyro cues tends to be all automated by computer, adding whatever musical / vocal assistance would be very simple. But my problem is with tickets prices from $200 and up that's just too much to see a band that at its core is well past its used by date. Put it this way I would pay $5000 to see Kiss live in 1977, but not $200 to see them like today. In 1980 I saw Kiss at the Unmasked tour and that as $13. I struggle to understand the current $200 and up price of a ticket. I dare saw Gene is stacking up the loot for retirement, considering how consistent he's been with the band he deserves it.

I love the versatile tones you can get out of it and the great tuning stability, clear crisp tone. Used to get lots of shit going on stage people saying like "Is that a toy? Oh look a guitar hero guitar. Or like...Is that a real guitar or just..what is it?" Until after a set or hearing what it can do and people always being impressed by the big sound out of such a small package. Also it was very unique and lots of people hadn't seen it so it was kind of a distinguishing factor and I think crowds loved it. 10/10 would buy again and about to get on this new release.

I still have my Hohner B2a Bass, built in the 1980's by Hohner, licensed by Steinberger. They made a guitar then, too. The Bass came passive, made out of maple, full 34" scale. The bridge is stamped "licensed by Steinberger". And it has the foldable foot rest like your guitar has. After a short time I swapped PU and wiring to the EMG PU and preamp of the original Steinberger. Nice thing: you are able to get the most parts for the bass on the Hohner Website until today. Back in the days the Steinberger was made out of graphite fiber in one piece what made it realy expensive. And quite heavy, with about 11 lbs. My Hohner wooden model (Made out of one piece maple) is much lighter. The Steinberger Bass had the famous "boomerang" mounted at the back to attach your guitar strap. It was bolted with one bolt to the back and made the bass hang wonderfull balanced. The boomerang snapped stable into his position when you stored the bass. The first production run had screws at the saddle so you were able to use single ball strings. They changed to the "only double ball saddle" when they thought that double ball strings were available everywhere. And I know several brands that made D.B.S. back in the days. Aaah, the foldable foot rest was removeable first, you had to plug it into the body. This was changed to the foldable ones together with the "only d.b. saddle". The wooden Hohner model was much more affordable, at about 300 USD (translated from Deutsche Mark to Euro to USD). Back then I had to pay about DM 700,--. The Hohner bass came in a nice rifle case, made of aluminum, but from my music shop, this case wasn't stock. It still is my travel bass, that I carry with me in the trunk of my car, so I have something to play on when it comes to a spontaneous session.

The original EMG PUs on both types of guitars are "wanting" so say the least, especially compared to the Seymours described below. --- On one of the GT-Pros, I changed out the pickups with Seymour Duncans: Custom Custom Hum, Br; Vintage Rails single-coil, Mid; & P-Rail Hum Neck. Both humbuckers (Br & Neck) have Seymour Triple-Shots, which allow four combinations for each humbucker: both coils together in [1] parallel or [2] series, or each coil individually [3 & 4]. These PUs with the Triple-Shots are great. Thanks, Richard

Hmm, I've been looking at these again recently. I remember playing a Hohner (I think) with the same kind of setup, and really liked it, but not the double-ball thing, for all the reasons you said. I see there's a nice replacement "headstock" that allows you to use single OR double-ball strings. I have that same problem as you do with the middl epickup - I just sold a pair of Ibanez S-series because due to the thin body, I couldn't screw that middle pickup in enough to get it out of my way. I think Steinberger make a 2-Humbucker version of these, don't they? Keep rockin' dude!

Years ago, I bought the Spirit GU Deluxe from MusicYo for $229. I regret selling it because I want one again. Can't find it in white and the models I see for sale are all $600+. I decided to get a GT Pro. I wanted it in black but they are on backorder with every retailer. So I got one in white. The stock pickups do suck. I had a DiMarzio Evolution bridge pickup laying around (in green) so that will be going in. I decided I needed more colors so I ordered a DiMarzio bridge pickup mounting ring in Violet, with gold screws. Not a middle pickup user so that will remain stock with a yellow pickup cover. Not much of a neck pickup user either so I didn't want to spend the money on another DiMarzio so I ordered a pink Dragonfire "Screamer" neck pickup with a blue mounting ring (comes with gold screws) from TNT Guitars for $30. Still waiting for the orange and blue knobs and selector switch caps to arrive from China. I'm thinking a red volume knob, orange cap and sky blue tone knob will blend in good on the white guitar.

Tried one of these out and considered buying it. The zero fret makes string bending really annoying with the pinging and scratching that happens. The tremolo never once returned to pitch. The body is so small that there isn't enough room for the controls (volume knob and switch right in your picking path). I'd have to swap out the headpiece for one that accommodates regular strings...but it is small and lightweight 😂

I have one of these and have spent lots of time with original ones. While expensive, the carbon fiber bodies play and sound infinitely better. I've tried 6 different pickups in my spirit. Maybe it's the size, or the basswood, but they have no balls. That said, going through a pile of effects like you have make it serviceable. But going straight to a tweed champ or Marshall. Not great. Still glad I own it and love playing it.

I feel like the necks on these are perfectly sized for my hands, which are small, and my muscles are a bit weak, especially in my left hand which is my fretting hand, these guitars use Fender's 25.5 inch scale, yes these are a full-scale guitar with 24 frets, so after buying myself a Brass single ball-end string adaptor that works really well, I put-on some 42-09 gauge strings and set the guitar up to Fender specs so the action at the 17th fret is slightly higher than 4/64ths inch for all the strings, my Steinberger came fitted with double ball-end strings in 46-10 gauge which I think is a bit too big a gauge of strings for these guitars, it also had a bit too much forward-bow in the neck which was easily corrected by tightening the truss-rod, the action on my Steinberger feels nice now.

For those who have this, would you consider using it as a regular gigging guitar over other guitars, and not just for travel and at home? I'm also wondering how it would go over in jazz, blues, or country band.

Sub in an overwound, higher gain middle pickup if you like to lower the middle pickup, it will make up for the gain loss.

Mat Mitchell (producer, Pucifer guitarist) has shown that a Steinberger can do pretty much anything a full-size guitar can do with the right pedals and effects equipment. He has a vintage 1990s model. But the GT-Pro is pretty damn good, and quite a value at under $400!

Who else laughed out loud when he says the middle pickup I screwed down as far as it could go because I don't like hearing my pick hit it. I do the same here buddy. I enjoy the HH configuration, it's a blues thing I think. Deep picking. I think this might be a great guitar for me as a truck driver. More ease of use.

These things are OK but not great. There have been many versions - the early guitars were made of carbon fibre in the USA and this was reflected in the price. The current guitars are made from inexpensive woods in China and I think for what you get, are a little over priced. I recently repaired a brand new one for a client. It was very difficult to impossible to tune and would not hold tune even if you managed to get somewhere near. It turned out that the knurled knob on the tension adjustment was loose and just spinning up and down the thread of the tension screw, rather than turning the screw. The side grub screw that locks the saddles in place had not been tightened, so the six saddles were just sliding around in the bridge saddle tray. A number of frets were high and had not been fully pressed down into their fret slots. All three pickups are ceramic magnet dual blade humbuckers and very similar looking pickups can be purchased on EBAY for $10. All three pickups are sealed into their cases with hard black epoxy. Magnetic viewing film shows that the bridge pickup is actually a narrow pickup set at an angle across the diagonal of the large 'standard' humbucker size case.

@Left-Earth
@Left-Earth 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it works excellent as a slide guitar when you have it adjusted correctly. Johnny Winter played an original model in the 80's. The GT Pro is a cheaper alternative and works well. I don't think anyone intelligent has really stripped any parts on the tremelo. Sounds like an urban legend. When purchased new from a store/dealer it includes a lifetime warranty on parts. Gibson will replace any defective parts as long as you follow the warranty information.

Ok, so I'm a contrarian here. I owned a Spirit GT-Pro and it pretty much sucked. It wouldn't stay in tune so I got rid of it. In contrast, I was fortunate to be able to purchase a Steinberger Synapse several years ago and it's frickin' amazing. It stays in tune, it's solid and surprisingly heavy and has great tone and play ability. I use it all of the time especially when I'm on the couch and just noodling. And yes, it's white with a leg lever. It's brilliant.

Hey Steve, I have one in black same HSH pickups I like a lot. But I’m not happy with where the 5 way switch is and also the trem bar has become loose in the hole from usage .I was wrapping the end of the bar with plastic ballon for a tighter fit and that worked for a while. Now I’m thinking to tap and dye the hole and the bar for a screw in version
