Excellent review for my purposes. One thing that stood out was your excellent photography. You really did the watch justice by showing its chameleon characteristics of changing its colour depending on the light. Sometimes the dial looks black and the bezel looks very green and in some lights it’s the exact opposite, while in others both look like very dark green. You also showed the side view which is something I wanted to see. I could go on, but I really enjoyed your review. I’ve been looking at all kinds of dive watches and I think you’ve sold me on the Steinhart 39 Double Green Premium Hulk.

I was only talking about this recently. One of the main things us enthusiasts love about watches is the dynamism of the dial and case under different light conditions. I try to give viewers a feel for that. Some watches don’t lend themselves well to it though. And I need to upgrade from my smartphone camera at some point. 🙂

Thanks for watching. My wrist is 6.75 in. I removed 4 links and then moved in one micro adjustment on the clasp. I always find with bracelets theres a bit more movement on the wrist compared to nato / leather strap

Make sure the crown is screwed down and wash the watch in warm soapy water and turn the bezel so that soapy water gets under it then rinse under warm water (not hot water) and after that I bet the bezel loosens up and works much better great review of a really pretty watch I just love my o v red 42mm I just mite sell off some of my seiko divers to fund a Steinhart gmt

Thanks very much. Yes, I still love the watch, it’s a keeper and will never part my collection. Fit, finish and bracelet is fantastic. The watch is so dynamic and the greens used are beautiful. One drawback I found is, I would prefer there to me more lume applied to indices, but a very minor quibble

@@WonderofWatches I’ve noticed that some lumes glow brighter and seem to last longer than others. There must be some difference in their chemical make-up because I’ve seen some narrow indexes glow brighter and last longer than much wider ones. Do the very expensive brands, like Rolex, use their own proprietary lume?

just subscribed to your channel. i have a steinhart "kermit" that i bought to get the feel of a rolex submariner. i recently got a 114060, sub no date, and actually enjoy wearing the steinhart more. the bezel action is more robust; the sub feels a bit mushy. total blasphemy, i know, but that's my opinion.

Ive asked steinhart about making an all green ocean one for years! Finally gave up and bought the green ceramic bezel over the black dial. No shit 2 weeks later steinhart released this model. I was absolutely livid 😂

I wouldn’t put Pagani in the same league as Steinhart at all. But I haven’t handled a recent one just one from last year. The steinys use selita / eta elabore movements and the finishing is amazing. The Pagani I had just looked bulky and cheap by comparison. It’s easily worth the money imho. They also do really cool Tudor snowflake and Rolex Explorer dial homages that look incredible. The only drawback is the lume is not wonderful

It's a very nice watch, but likewise, the bezel on mine is very stiff to turn. And green is a great watch for St. Patty's Day which is coming up as of this writing!

I have an Ocean One green ceramic in 39 mm, and also find the bezel very stiff. By contrast my 42 mm Ocean One GMT (blue/black) has a nice bezel action and is much easier to turn. I think leverage on the larger diameter case is probably what accounts for this.

My wrists are 6.75 inches, I think the 39mm would be perfect for you. But, I will say, I like a smaller watch and even wear 34mm vintage pieces.

In half the shots the bezel is mis-aligned. Is it a problem with this watch, like with so many Seikos, for instance? I have a Steinhart Ocean One Titanium 500 and it also has a slightly misaligned bezel, fortunately the action is stiff enough so that I can position it "between clicks" and the top triangle points exactly at 12:00.

Yep, absolutely bang on with everything you have said. Its misaligned slightly to the right of the 12 o'clock, in its best position. But as you say the action is so stiff, it can be aligned. Not a biggy for me but amazing that they can't get it right all the same. Thanks for your observation, my bezel is exactly the same yours.

yeah that would be a pretty cool watch, they have a mother of pearl blue dial in 39mm but I dont think thats what you are after. Gunter, Steinhart's owner is really active on Steinhart Watches Fan Page on FB. He might be able help you there. The 42mm version looks very cool.

Steinhart has me really confused they have 3 green models to choose from, all 39mm which I prefer. This one seems to be $575, the green bezel black dial $430 and the green aluminum bezel for $385. I'm not sure which way I'll go but I think one of these will be purchased soon. Do you know why Steinhart calls this "premium" on thier website? The only thing I can see different is a display case back.

I think the main reason for the premium tag is the movement. Steinhart are calling it the eta 2824-2 élaboré premium. Its a 2824-2 but with thermally blued screws, a golden rotor and some decoration. And of course, as you said, a see through case back through which to view it I would personally choose this over the black dial / green bezel. The sunburst dial on this watch is stunning and I've tried to capture how dynamic it is under different conditions from 6:44

Hi there, lug to lug is 47mm. I love this watch, it’s one of my favourites. Wears really well and is really well finished. The green of the ceramic bezel and sunburst dial are beautiful. Also, it’s my wife’s favourite piece of mine. The only criticism I have is that I wish for a heavier application of lume plots. Not just for dark environments but it would make the indices pop a bit more in the day time too, Ben

I haven’t personally but have been tempted in the past. A friend of mine has, but it was a while ago. But I remember him say it was a good experience and that they worked the shipping info so that he didn’t get hit with customs etc That would be the danger for me, that you would be hit with customs charges and VAT, which means you need to factor an increase in of approx 33% on the advertised price.

Hi James, personally, I prefer the smaller size but my wrist is 6.75. Your wrist is bigger and I think the 39mm lug to lug 47mm would wear beautifully on your wrist but I guess after that it comes down to taste. If you prefer a bigger watch, I think you could easily accommodate the 42mm 50mm lug to lug. If you had an opportunity to try before you buy then do that. More difficult with a 100% online business like Steinhart. Unless you wrist is extremely round, I dont think you can go wrong with either size. If your wrist is very round, the small 39mm may be the better option. Ben.

I think the 39mm would be perfect for you, but again it depends on the shape of your wrist. If they are flat and have plenty of surface area on top, then maybe the 42mm. Also, if you are used to wearing bigger watches, the 39mm may come as a surprise size wise. I wear 43mm Seiko Turtles too but that has a cushion case and is meant to be big. The Steinhart is a different kind of watch (more akin to a Rolex) and I think the smaller size is more elegant.
