Okabe cannot take a break lol. Rewatching this series reminded why I quickly loved Subaru from Re:Zero so much, and its cos he reminds me so much of Okabe. Both characters are weird and can be viewed as annoying, but after they're put through hell we laugh and cheer when we see them stand up against fate and be that happy goofy annoying guy again. Hououin Kyouma and his usually cringe catchphrases were so badass this episode. Its cos we can't help but love an underdog who goes through suffering but manages to fight through it and overcome the struggles. Regarding the time travel its all really simple. As you guys mentioned, its only one worldline active at a time. The "Attractor fields" refer to the rope example given by Suzuha in Episode 14. There's the rope/attractor field, but its made up of many individual threads/worldlines tied together. All of the worldlines are seperate, but they all lead to the same end result. So since there's only one worldline, every form of time travel used in the show takes the traveler to a slightly different worldline, to prevent any paradoxes from existing. Just for examples sake, Okabe could go into the time machine to go to the past and accidentally lead his past self to end up being killed.. yet doing so wouldn't affect Traveler Okabe's existence like make him disappear or anything. Because as a time traveler he's technically NOT from this worldline. He's an outsider observer from a previous worldline iteration, so anything that happens in the current one wouldn't alter his existence at all.

thats exactly how i feel about subaru with okabe. i think earlier in the series i felt that Subaru was basically an improved character type for the trope. thanks for breaking down the time travel like that, i think thats what our understanding of it is but we cant explain it without mixing ourselves up lol.

@@ReactCity Yeea I can see Subaru as an improved version of the trope. Not that Okabe isn't a good character, but there's only so much characterization you can do in a one season visual novel anime adaptation. But because Re:Zero is a long running light novel series, Subaru has the length of multiple seasons to explore his character. Btw you guys should poll up Steins Gate 0. Its not a spoiler since it was the selling point for the visual novel, its basically the story of Future Okabe from the video message and what he had to go through in this Beta worldline to be convinced to start fighting for Steins Gate again after giving up on saving Kurisu and eventually coming up with the Operation Skuld plan. Its a long darker journey that explores Okabe's trauma of the first season and the consequences of him trying to ignore and run away from time travel.. with World War 3 slowly brewing closer and closer. There's an alternate Episode 23 called "Episode 23b" which is the lead in to Steins Gate 0. Majority of the episode is the exact same as the original, its not until after Okabe returns from the first failure that it all changes.

By the way, Okarin cannot use D-mail. To be precise, he must not use D-mail at all. If they use the D-mail, CERN will capture it. That will be the same as in episode 1. They will go back to the world line α again. Everything they have done to get this far will be for nothing.

Was waiting for this episode 😄 solid reactions, discussion and theory crafting as always! Yes, the opening indeed change this episode because we are now on a different worldline 😂 if you remember back in Episode 1 the opening didn't happen until half way through the episode.. after Okabe had sent the first d-mail and was in the Alpha worldline. So its pretty genius that they did a slightly changed opening with added visuals and using the second verse of the song to show that we're in the Beta worldline
