One thing that is really interesting about the setup to these books is that The Passenger opens about a week after the end of Stella Maris, but Stella Maris takes place after all the Alicia sections (outside of the opening) within The Passenger.

I finished The Passenger a few days ago. It’s a step above The Road and No Country for Old Men, but behind his older works. In essence, McCarthy is fusing a lot of meaning and subtext into the book, but it often comes across as forced since it’s clear that’s what he is doing. I’ll read Stella Maris in January and February. I do like the boxed set and I’m glad I held out for it over standard hardcover or Kindle.

Good review. Since being confused is my normal state, I enjoyed meeting Alicia in the passenger through her hallucinations and of course Bobby’s eyes. Then in Stella Maris, we get Alicia straight up through her conversations with her psychiatrist, and get the mystery of Bobby’s state in the Passenger…no spoilers cause I really don’t know or care, cause after all it’s a work of fiction. And to be cherished by the reader.

Just finished Stella Maris. My goodness was this an amazing ride. Definitely recommend reading them in order and back to back.

you can put the two books in these boxsets together to create an image, just use the front cover of the passenger and the back cover of stella marris

I would kill for a video essay on these books from you

Stay tuned. Over time I’ll keep posting about Cormac, and the only way to do that is to keep going deeper. Video essays are a logical next step

107 pages in The Passenger, a slog. I've read all McCarthy's novels and enjoyed them all. Don't like this.

I couldn't get through the first few pages of the passenger , that vaudeville 'witty' dialogue shctick was so embarrassing ... I'm pretty sure a character literally says 'hyuk hyuk' at one point lmfao ... does it get less cringeworthy?
