I've made over 300 a year for many years and my first house was 75k in 1995. The most I've ever spent on a car was my 2005 Audi S4 at $48k. Cars have statistically gone up very little. Trucks and SUV's have gone stupid. I bought a 1997 Audi A4 for 28.5k. I can buy a comparable Subaru Crosstrek for about the same money. The Crosstrek is a little larger with about the same equipment. I bought a 1984 GMC Sonoma for 14k losded. The Canyon equivalent is now 44k.@@williamcricket7931

They stopped making decent jeeps in 2010. My 2007 4.7 Grand Cherokee has 170,000 miles on it and has been bullet proof. I just changed the spark plugs yesterday for the first time not because I had too but because I really felt I should. Other than that its had a new alternator and a new windshield and a couple of very minor part changes that I did myself it still drives like it's brand new. Oh and I bought it for $16,000 with 21,000 miles on it in about 2010 when gas was last at $5 per gallon here in CA.

@utoob7361 this is probably one of their biggest issues. They can make the exterior and interior look pretty, but if the guts of these cars are unreliable junk, they're not worth regular prices and especially not the housing levels $100k+ prices.

The other manufacturers are NOT doing anything abt their prices either. I checked out a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross L FWD. It's a nice average compact Suv. MSRP in Canada is $27,650. Toyota says the price for this vehicle is $30,715.08. $ 3000. worth of crap from the dealer has been added. Then there is Ontario sales tax of 13% and the new price becomes $ 34,708.04. That price is WITHOUT ANY ACCESSORIES added in. It's the basic vehicle. It includes junk, I do NOT want like heated front seats, cruise control, front and rear assist grips ( apparently ppl don't know how to get in and out of a car without an assist). , front and rear splash guards. Now I know some people want some of these things and that's fine, but it should be MY CHOICE as to whether I want them or not ! That $34,708.04 is if you are paying cash only. If you are going to use the dealers 6 year financing program at 6.99%, then at the end of the 6 years you will have paid $42,539.64 for a car with an MSRP at $27,650. Plus, remember that it does NOT come with any accessories I might want. It also only comes in a choice of three colors, B,W, and Silver at this time of year. DON"T BUY NOW ❗ WAIT 'TIL JUNE OR DEC ❗

Exactly, the car manufacturing is turning into the tech sector in that these cars will be lucky to last 10 years and then they will break down because of all the electronics faults. No one will want to buy them because fixing the electronics will be as much as buying a new car version. And especially with evs. The batteries are degrading and eventually no one will want to buy your old one because it will cost too much on top of that to fix or replace the battery. It’s like refrigerators etc. they have 1/4 of the life as the late 1970’s olive and harvest gold fridges. I have seen people still somehow using those things. Things are now made terribly and will become obsolete before you can sell it to someone else. They have managed to make disposable cars with evs which is worse for the environment then any gas car.

Not a Jeep wrangler with cloth seats. 😅 Dealers think that people wanted the most dressed up and fully capable vehicles financed at 5-6% not including the forced add-ons. they are crazy. Now, everyone is rushing to dealers trying to get the cheapest cars with the least amount of options. Now they have a shortage of that. Many dealers now have shortages of base model vehicles. I can’t believe that normal people would finance these new cars at 9-12% or more with average credit. Unbelievable.

One of the other problems in this market today are these fools who can afford it and continue to buy when they don't need to. They're just continuing to contribute to the problem of this market today that's hurting our middle class. The problem with owning these over teched vehicles is not only the upfront cost, but the cost to maintain and the increased cost to insure these over priced vehicles. Buying a new vehicle on a middle class income in this market today is a recipe to financial disaster.

I have a 2012 Jeep Unlimited fully upgraded at the dealership from a local custom 4x4 shop with everything, leather, tires, wheels, suspension..ect and I paid 39.5K for it. (2012) I was thinking about looking into a new one and did some local dealership searches and stop in's and anything new that comes close with upgrades would be 75K+ easily. Are you kidding me, in 12 years almost 85% price increase. I only have 46K miles on it, so it looks like I'm going to keep it for a very long time.

So my 21 Jeep Grand Cherokee's lease is up. I got it new in 2021 fully loaded with navigation, sunroof, tow package etc. to replace it with a 2024 same options is 58 grand plus tax tag and title, plus double or more interest rate. NO Fing WAY. So today I brought the lease out for 21 grand and it has 19000 miles on it and a payment of $396 a month. These new ones are just way out of control way too much money too high on the interest rates I don't see them selling a single one. I for sure will not buy another car for another two or three years or until this market adjusts to the way it should be

Within Jeep brand the Wrangler has been the cash cow. So the price has risen something like 45% in a time when inflation accounts for less than 25%. I bought a loaded 22 Gladiator in early 22 for MSRP ($64K). Jeep over produced the 23 Gladiators then dumped the price to the point I could have bought the same 23 for less than $50K thus killing the resale on the older Gladiators. It's a good thing thing that my wife and I love our Gladiator because we're basically stuck with it. I hate what Stellantis (and before them FCA) has done to the brand but I still love Jeeps.

Man, that's all I can afford right now. So sad seeing all those trucks, but they're simply out of reach. Now I'm gonna run this Forester until the wheels fall off, cause I'm out of the market.

I couldn't imagine paying what they're asking ...I mean, the Queen drove a Land Rover - so it goes without saying, you're gonna pay for the privilege of having it in the shop every other week. BUT when I think Jeep, I think something that you can set it and forget it. We had a Jeepster Commando when I was growing up ... also had a rare J-10 pickup that took our family across country. When I grew up, I bought a used Grand Cherokee 5.9 ZJ - it was a thirsty monster with the modern styling from a Renault Fuego (not a bad thing mind you). But today's Jeeps are priced like toys for the rich & famous with little pay-off. A Jeep is suppose to be a simple, durable vehicle - not a finicky Fiat. All that said, IF there was a reasonably priced Gladiator PHEV ... I would put it on my list (but I know when it comes out in 2025 - it wont be reasonable).

Maybe because the Renegade is built in Melfi, Italy with the designation BU/520, alongside the related Fiat 500X; Goiana, Brazil with the designation B1 (alongside Jeep Compass and Fiat Toro); and in Guangzhou, China codenamed BQ. Subaru seems to have no trouble selling. Similar market niche, higher quality and longevity, comfortable cars. Went snowboarding today. The parking lots were full of Subarus, just like they have been for 20+ years. Even if I had the cash and were in the market, I would get a GX for that money, not a Fiat-Jeep. Or the Land Cruiser for less (I'm not really enamored with "luxury" in my off roaders). I wouldn't even look at Jeep right now. And that's from a Jeep guy, for my whole adult life.

Very simply, people are living beyond their means when you look at the average take home pay. When applying the cost of living to differing parts of the country, inflation dilemma and with that rising APR's it is simply not sustainable. Those that are smart simply scale back and cut/reduce measures that do not matter. At the end of the day for most people a vehicle is a means of transportation from point A to B and lug around some groceries. The used car market is indicative of a country's economy and boy do we have an issue. Two days ago I went to a Toyota & Subaru dealership to get a feeler for pricing on a Rav4/Forester, new or used. Toyota had no new or last year models and the Subaru dealership only had two new vehicles out of their entire car portfolio. Used prices for either of those vehicles for a 3-4yr model with 70k KM was in the 50-60k range. Subaru dealership was still blaming supply chain delays ect but they don't care, they'll simply markup the cost on the base MSRP.
