Auto industry profits have soared since the end of the pandemic. The highest sales and monthly payment rates ever recorded were achieved as inventories stayed low. But, as we well know around here, business can change on a dime.

Instead of being forced to buy whatever black or white vehicle, you could actually order something in a different color. None of that wholesale markup crap. People used to drive all sorts of colors, and vehicles with options and without. If you want a car with a manual transmission, you could order it! The absurdity of an “affordable” car was always a lie because such a car never existed. It always had to be ordered, which means no discounts, no haggling. I think financially responsible people need to start shaming those who ruined the free marketplace for the rest of us. I drove a clapped out 1996 Mitsubishi gallant with no AC and one window working out of the four. I drove that car for three years. I went and bought a jeep grand Cherokee and put $20,000 down. I got a 5% interest rate. I now owe 6000 on that jeep and it is worth 30,000. Right now I still rent when I know others that own, but are in worse financial situations than myself. I have no credit card debt with almost $100,000 in available credit. My only loan is my auto loan which I am upside by a great amount. I can’t buy a house for 400,000 when I can simply look at the price history and see that it’s sold for half that before Covid. Guess most people do not have a problem becoming bag holders.

Chrysler has not been successful since being sold out to foreigners. It's the Euros that can't figure it out because they have a disdain for Chrysler and were only after Jeep. Don't forget that Chrysler was the most profitable automaker in the world at the time of the hostile takeover by Daimler Benz.

Daimler merged with Chrysler in a "merger of equals" in 1998, which ended in 2007. They merged with Fiat in 2014 to create FCA and FCA merged with PSA to create Stellantis. The "owner" of Chrysler hasn't changed. They just expanded the corporation. Low-IQ, low-information people think Chrysler is "Italian" or "French" now, but they're no more European than Rolls Royce is German or Land Rover is Indian.

The current business model in the auto industry seems problematic. Many manufacturers prioritize profit over quality, often using cheaper materials at the expense of the consumer. It's frustrating for those of us who work hard and want to reward ourselves with a car purchase, only to receive a mediocre product. This situation is unfair to consumers.

Yes i have replaced nearly every moving part on the truck in that time but all that work has cost me about $7k. So.. $7k for 200k miles of service across 6 years..... The reduction in insurance costs for this 30 year old vehicle vs a new one has covered the $7k and then some....Stop throwing vehicles away! You are throwing your money away! Get one out of the 'trash' and save yourself THOUSANDS!

Manufacturing problems during and after the pandemic created shortages, which caused a surge in prices because demand was outstripping supply. Now that manufacturing problems have abated, supply is outstripping demand. As always, this is a management problem. Factory management only has one goal. To produce as many vehicles as possible. They don't care what or how many are selling. That is head offices's and dealer's problem. It's not a sign of economic problems, it's a sign of conflicting management issues.
