It's fair imo, unification was overplayed as a rush origin in multiplayer, while colony is more of a roleplay one and doesn't provide more starting pops. What they forgot is to buff syncretic evolution after making necrophage, which is literally better in every way.

Unification day is a recent event in the game that provides a temporary economy boost while colonial spirit is the empire’s traditions and values passed down by ancestors, so it makes sense there is no timer
@AdmiralTails3 жыл бұрын
Probably because with Lost Colony, that modifier is essentially all you get, none of the pops or districts Prosperous Unification gets, and because you don't start on your species actual homeworld, you lose the +30 habitability other empires get on their capital. Note that despite the timer on its modifier, Lost Colony still doesn't beat it.
@-JustHuman-3 жыл бұрын
@@mr.gaster1310 They could have made it so each new colony would get a bonus instead, to show how the empire progresses. So you start with Prosperous Unification, and when you make a new colony it goes away and that colony gets "Great Leap" or something, that moves the bonus to that colony because it was the latest thing the empire did. It would mean that the last colony to be made would have this bonus, and it would move around the more you expand. So it would give you more of a choice to maybe delay moving on to the next colony, it could also just be a colony timer. Not sure it should be those numbers either, but more like tree of life where it's a bonus that means something. Just to give it something more than just a timer on the homeworld.

Necrophage seems like a good choice for crisis empires in particular- The first crisis tier unlocks and drastically accelerates purging, so you can more quickly convert conquered pops to your main species, and get the menace from purging pops _without_ actually reducing your total population... at least, not as much as you would otherwise have to.
@caad52583 жыл бұрын
You get menace from from Assimilation. This includes Synthetic and Psionic assimilation, so its pretty easy to rack up menace as Synthetic or Psionic ascension empires.

Pretty sure you would get menace from Necrophage assimilation even. Plus, as a Necrophage, Bio Ascension is a natural pathway, and assimilating via that works as mentioned.
@malcolmkhummel33 жыл бұрын
You also gain menace by assimilating or integrating populations. I was late game having the main crises just spawn in so I forgot I was integrating the 4th most powerful species in the galaxy.(I had already integrated the number 3). As soon as I integrated them...i was the fricking crises....battling the rest of the galaxy as well as the actual crises which didnt spawn in my empire...but just off and they ended up mostly coming my way. I had so much extra territory that i could let the fringes go slow and keep just a few fleets there while i concentrated mostly on the crises. I eventually won and it was my favorite game ever. As a side note....the grey tempest was in the L cluster and was released when i had 4 6k fleets lol. Outlasted and spanked them too. They need to fiddle with that pop growth a bit more....i like the lack of pop management late game. It was far too low tho. Having a gate in your home system is very useful later for avoiding piracy as well, and this origin saves you the substantial cost of building one from scratch, as well as the delay from needing to research the tech to build gates. Really well explained thoughts, the only one I feel needs to be moved in Remnant to A tier. Reasoning: 1) The tech reshuffling. Using the blockers to get a new tech shuffle lets you get to cruisers for aggression and/or the ascendancy techs very fast. 2) You are guaranteed a size 22 planet with blockers that pay for themselves to clear (motes are easy to get this patch) 3) That size 22 comes with the native relic world buffs and turns into a ecu with former relic and capital designation, which in a pop efficiency meta is the best planet type you can get. Combined together, a remnant synthetic ascension funneling stolen pops into a uber boosted ecu capital is one of the strongest set ups in the game.

@EnlonWhite3 жыл бұрын
And from what i have seen even before the changes, you only ever needed ONE Ecu planet, to really get benefits, maybe two if your insanely high in pops, tho this new economy/pop growth I doubt you will need more then One to get really strong results. Since you got the one then from the start you don't need that ascension perk for it to get one, and bam free Ascension slot open for something else. Also I usually find at LEAST One in most games or win one through force if needed, and done. You only need One, to get real strength out of it, and that makes the Ascension perk really.....weak in the long run. Since you do not need more then One, due to how maintenance upkeep costs works on them spamming them is bad but also unless you got insane growth of pops on them ,you will NEVER max out districts on them in USE of ALL JOBS anyways. Aka, only ONE of these planets is needed, so the Ascension perk is rather useless, as you can just go mega-structures instead and build alot of different stuff, while ringworlds are still just as good overall with more options of what you can do with mega-structures. if you start with a planet that can already become a Ecu, then you already have the end game large planet able to do that job. Go for mega structures, and ignore that Ascension perk for city planets, with full benefit.

17:06 why would you wanna get rid of a free aloys machine? ( design federation ships with all armor, let them build a few, remove everything from the design, "refit" them, delete them, change the design to all armor again, wait till they build some again) Your lads can give you a few hundred aloys a year at the start of the game and a lot more further on, even if you box them in. You can use those aloys to get ahead of them and insure that you stay as the leader of the federation. And once you have a rediculously amounts of aloys they can give you a rediculous amount of free ships too ;)

One big bonus I'm getting on a void-dweller play through is actually going Synth and Authoritarian. Being able to set up thrall worlds for most of your basic resource production is incredibly feasible to start snowballing out of control and having nihilistic acquisition will insure a constant stream of new thralls. The 30% pop growth bonus basically means you can use the thrall-worlds as production centers to ship to habitats for assimilation.

I had a quite different experience playing a biological Shattered Ring origin (first time choosing Shattered Ring, and in 3.0) purely by incredibly good luck. There were two relic worlds relatively near my start area (though one was the Rubricator site so it wasn't /as/ free), one planet nearby had pre-sapients I could uplift for a normal habitability preference early on to colonize other worlds, the Baol precursor chain gave me the tech to do just that, and the Baol relic's free Gaia terraform every ten years seriously mitigates the weakness of Ring World preference. (On top of that I also found a ruined ring world system, though that won't actually be relevant until much later in the game.) It's been going incredibly well so far but it's a shame it took this much random chance to make it work well.
@roblaquiere82203 жыл бұрын
You can colonize the Relic world with Rubricator so long as you don't solve the archeology site. And once you have a fleet that can kill Grand Dragon quickly, park it over the planet and solve the site... If the fleet engages the dragon and wins (as it spawns) your planet will not be destroyed.

You also are guaranteed to get three techs partially researched: Regenerative Hull Tissue. Gateway activation. Gateway construction. All of those are delicious technologies that are often hard to acquire or take a long time to get to, which, with the origin, it speeds up the process significantly. Also, the resources you get from it, such as the free alloys, minor artifacts, and research points, far outweigh the loss of a scientist (you can throw a tier one scientist at it) and a science ship. I’d put it at C-tier rather than F-tier, since it’s not as good as the others, but it has its merits as a starting origin.

I will say that I was actually pretty glad I chose Galactic Doorstep as my Origin on my first playthrough. This is obviously highly specific to my circumstances but I did NOT understand how influence gain was affected by faction promotion (the tooltips regarding influence gain are really bad for this reason) and I really fucked myself up for a bit before I realized the issue. By the time I figured out my mistake, I was blocked into a corner by a much larger belligerent empire. They didn't attack me because I had already federated with a few other nearby empires that also rivaled with the belligerent but as they had closed their borders to me and they controlled all hyperlanes out of my space, I either had to develop jump tech as soon as possible or gamble with activating the gate. Turns out the gate opened in an empire that was much stronger than me and shared all my ethos (which highly discouraged unrestricted wars), so perfect ally. Gate allowed me to continue to explore the rest of the galaxy when it would have been hard to otherwise until much later in tech. I could see why it's objectively bad but boy did it save my ass as a good, albeit expensive, backup plan.

As far as I remember, as scion you can't create a federation or join one until you break free from your sugar daddy (which is probably at the very late endgame). So this is a significant disadvantage later on in the midgame imo.
@carldimayuga64193 жыл бұрын
Another disadvantage: if a midgame crisis affects you and you need to push back against them, you auto take the planets due to Total War being in effect. Normally you just vassalize them... but as Scion, you cant, because vassals cant make vassals. Midgame is definitely a dangerous period for Scion. A worthless planet or ten suddenly being under your control can tank your resources and whatnot. You can opt to have the planet split off the long way, by forcing the native pops to grow, setting their rights to slavery, maybe even trait-modifying them with stuff like Decadent until they break off. But this takes a while to fire off, and you still have several planets draining your resources until they break away.

I just did a shattered ring Xenophile normal race. I had less than 10 star systems total and by about year 2280 I had 1 ringworld segment, 4 planets with different species, 6 tier 2 habitats. At that point I think I had over 500 pops and only 4 factions. I had the strongest economy in the galaxy and was already researching the repeat techs. By 2350 I had over 700 pops, 1 complete ringworld, 1 partial ringworld with 2 complete segments, 4 gaia worlds, 8 tier 3 habitats, 2k more galactic market power than the nearest leader, 2 42k fleets, and still less than 10 star systems. The 2 keys to that success were I was near a nebula so I got early minerals and I researched habitats really early. I also made as many migration treaties as possible and accepted literally hundreds of refugees into my empire. I started with a single choke point but later got a second one with the cybrex system. I got bored and quit after I realized I was so far ahead of everyone else. The closest I have ever got to that level of success was machine world origin with a machine race but I think that run was just pure luck based on the number of planets in my system.

In my experience Galactic Doorstep is alot more powerfull than F-tier. Played right it will give you an incredibly strong early game that will snowball your power quickly. The tiny fleets that come out of The Black Crown is nothing. But as you said, it costs alot of resources early game to restore it and to build new ones. Though you do unlock the technology for constructing gateways once you finish the event. Which is really strong to have early game if you can spare the resources for building new gateways. Placing gateways in every sector will help out alot in your game. The earlier you get gateways, the better. Trade travels through gateways and saves you from caring about pirates. You won't need a starbase every 2 systems to keep trade safe in your long lines of trade routs. It goes without saying that your fleets become incredibly flexible with a proper gateway system. Though, it is very difficult to properly manage this so early in the game for it to give you a real advantage over other origins. But I would say that Galactic Doorstep is at minimum B-tier. For an experienced player that knows how to use it though, its an easy S-tier.
