Pretty much you offer a research agreement with a sliding time usage in exchange for resources. I also did it in my multiplayer games with friends to help them out since they were still learning the game.

You called war the most exciting thing in Stellaris. I wanted to let you know that I could not disagree more. War is tedious and annoying. Empires will basically never surrender a long lost war. AI keeps recapturing system after system with two ship fleets which can barely take out unupgraded stations. Conquering planets is just micromanagement without the basest form of interaction. Status Quo peace deals are not easily transparent. There is nothing between a weird Status Quo and a complete surrender of the enemy. CBs are inconsistent and hard to get aside from making claims for single systems via the rarest ressource in the game that you can't even really get actively. Just wanting to let you (and perhaps Paradox) know that there are plenty of ways to play Stellaris and I might be alone in my economy simulator and Federation/community leader playstyle but I don't think I am. i would try the nsc2 mod yes. stations are considerably reworked and two ship retakes don't happen period. plus it has six different station levels more ship sets allowing for a better fleet and generally a better quality space game overall. best part is you do not need any dlc to play it and only requires the ui overhaul dynamic mod to play it with for all the new things to fit properly. and if you want to expand ship techs further then ESC 3.0 or extra ship components will further expand on your fleets firepower and quality.

3:20 cruiser design is awful. Lasers and strikecraft is a terrible combination, lasers will be forced to target shields since strike craft ignores it and strikecraft will destroy a lot of armor before lasers can be used against it. Kinetics and strikecraft is much more powerful, since the kinetics will quickly deal with shields while strike craft deals with armor and both can take on hull. Coil guns are superior to UV lasers in hangar only cruiser fleets.

@@ravenknight4876 I would disagree. while you should push for tech research in physics as a priority engineering research is much more significant for your overall economy. as a non gestalt conciousness empire you can also gain a good amount of energy from tradepower. also physics gives generally better weapons than engineering late game. you can also use shields to save alloys. that requires better reactors but a lot of essential lategame tech and even ascension perks require good reactors.
@ravenknight48764 жыл бұрын
@@94Newbie You really shouldn't. Amd the reason for why you shouldn't is that having a tiny edge in late game doesn't really matter anymore, while it can sometimes be the defining factor in early game. In an otherwhise equal 1v1 at 2240, the empire with cruisers and Autocannons is just always going to win a war, while a contest between two equal powers in 2400 will rarely come down to who got Neutron launchers first. All tips in this video -and my response to it- only ever matter in early and mid game when you can't win a war on pushing out 10 battleships worth of alloys per month. And during those phases of the game, you will not have that energy from trade power, and the benefits from general economics won't outshite the benefits of kinetic weapons yet because they are frankly not yet impactfull enough.

In my opinion, the armies should be integrated in some way into the fleet, with value depending on, for exemple, the size of the ship, the technologies, some kind of add-on attached (like Regenerative Armor) to the ship, etc. As it is now, the ground combat is just tedious and adds more or less nothing to the game, even worst, it only slows the game and adds even more micromanagement than there already is.

That said they'd also have to rework how defensive armies works and the combat probably. I definitely think that getting armies on planets should be simpler, and then after that I dunno. I think it's hard to make ground warfare any deeper when the main game is set in space, you can do that in turn based games as you can divide the attention a lot, but real time the way Stellaris works is hard. I think having events pop up as ground battles goes might be one way to do it, where you have different choices and information.

it might be useful to have a corvette swarm (so 20+) with afterburners that can act as a rapid deployment force to both react to small raiding parties, and basically scoop up the level 0 starports in the internal regions of an opponent's empire. Corvettes with afterburners because your ship speed is based on the slowest ship in your fleet, so the corvettes can blitz places and dodge out when their fleets show up.

Battleships do this better, you don't fly faster and it's not the goal. You just jump the whole fleet to another line and the opponent won't follow because they'll be stuck on the other side. Once you in battle you're stuck in battle and battleships manage to stay alive.

You can also use the trade window to determine how many reserves of a resource an empire has. Just CRTL-Shift click on the other empires alloy trade, where it maxes out at is its reserve and the monthly is it's production. This can also be used to decide which planets to take from an empire, since losing a consumer goods world when you are already low on consumer goods production is crushing. Attacking an equivalent empire with 5k fleet but ~15k alloy in store, means that in 90 days in there will be a BIG reinforcement wave coming.

You went on to praise strike craft, yet gave us a clear demonstration of why they actually aren't all that great. They get pulped with even miniscule advantage in the enemy's fleet power if it contains some PD. Also, the reason why your war exhaustion suffered less than theirs was not due to strike craft being efficient. It was due to cruisers being more efficient at retreating than corvettes and destroyers. Disruptors and similar weapons, on the other hand, don't have any significant counterplay options and allow a fleet to punch well above it's apparent weigth class.

About raiding fleets: I've noticed that the AI is really bloody good at distributing their fleets. They have smaller raiding fleets at the perfect locations and their big 100k fleets where they are needed most (fallen empires). Have I noticed correctly that the Stellaris AI is quite advanced when it comes to combat?
@joaogomes94053 жыл бұрын
Accidentally effective is more like it. The AI doesn't really intend to do any of that, they just get boosts to their economy that allow them to build fleets to their hearts content so they just spam them from whatever random starbases they have and then send them out to the closest connection to your empire. I used to think the same as you until I realised during one game that the AI was only attacking me from two fronts with separate raiding fleets of 2 corvettes each because he had a starbase I hadn't noticed with two shipyards built and he just kept spamming vettes out of there and sending them to the closest non-defended system I had, which just so happened to be in the opposite direction of the main front. He wasn't even smart enough to group those corvettes together and actually do any real damage, so I just had these shit swarms running around the same 3 undefended systems doing nothing but being annoying.

Subjugation Wars against 1 planet primitive upstart empires or rebels have become such a drag with Verne, once there are a few defensive pacts in place. Since currently you can't get the Homeworld anymore when you have taken it and dealt enough exhaustion via Status Quo. And full Victory takes an unrealistically amount of invasions for them to give in, while realistically a guaranteer would exit the war before having all of their planets invaded.
@Khunvyel4 жыл бұрын
*With patch 2.7 claiming systems during war is not exactly working, so be sure to claim before the attack.* After you have reached status quo and got rid of their ability to reinforce, you can simply keep the war because you will be in an open border truce for 10 years after the war has finished. The occupied systems will continue to give you economic boosts. So if you have to fight on multiple fronts, having not to worry about one side is a big relief, especially if you don't have to worry that after 10 years, they just want to strike back if your fleet strength isn't up to par and at the other side of your empire. Another tip how to be done with wars faster is claim more systems than one, in the order of importance. That way you can guarantee that you will get the 1 or 2 systems that you actually want on a state of Status quo, and leave out the other 1 to 2 systems that you claimed later. That way you can easily rush wars even if the opponent has the bigger fleet, when they're busy elsewhere and before they can get back to you to mop the floor with you, the war is already over. Yet another tip: do not show the enemy your fleet strength on the border. If you put ships on your border, the other empires will put ships there as well. wait for war declaration until the very last moment as you move your ships into place and they're at the edge of the gravity well so they can immediately jump immediately and start attacking. It's funny, yet another game where ground combat is essentially useless :D

Espionage was actually important since it will easily turn the entire war we're you are outnumbered from hoping the enemy will mess up in order for you to win into a thinking game since if you had the info of their fleets position you can do stuff like divide and conquer or etc

Hey ! First of all, nice guides. It helped me a lot even if I have so many questions left... The main problem I had in my last game is this one : How to make enemies fight against our defensive spaceports ? I've built in all my chokepoints spaceports with hangar modules but when an enemy tried to invade my systems, he just traveled accross the spaceport-protected system, avoiding the fight (even if my own fleet was there) and just tried to take all my other (non-protected) systems...
@Stefan_Anon4 жыл бұрын
There are two ways to prevent this -You research ftl inhibitors asap -You put a ship or two in front of the starbase, in range of the coming fleet. The fleet will engage the ship, and move into the starbase's engagement range, which will be quite large, especially with the +50% range building
@Leor9744 жыл бұрын
@@Stefan_Anon Thx for the tips ! I remember I've done the second one by engaging the enemy fleet with mine close to my spaceport but it wasn't close enough. I think I didn't build the +50% range module. I'm going to try with it next time. Thx again !

Trying this in my current game, my carriers have 'Autonomous Ship Intellect (Carrier)', but they're absolutely not staying at extreme range. They launch their fighters while out of range of the enemy, but then close in and get blown to bits anyway. This is vs Santuary system defences, not in a war. Have now taken all their weapons off and downgraded their engines to T1. Working better... which is ridiculous. We'd win outright if the cruiser AI would just put the brakes on and sit still once the fighters launch.
@Stefan_Anon4 жыл бұрын
I've tried carriers against sanctuary and the enigmatic fortress, but they seem to rush in because they engage enemies further in the system and try to close range to 150 with THEM. It does make it so you can't cheese those systems really early for cheap, so I'm okay with it.
@Edramon534 жыл бұрын
@@Stefan_Anon Ah, that explains it since they seemed to behave fairly well in your video. I did notice the fighters don't focus on one target but spread out all over the place. Got Sanctuary with minimum losses in the end - set Hit and Run war doctrine and retreated a couple of times. Once they killed the first few things and the fighters concentrated a bit more it went quick. Thanks for the reply.

Excellent video! It nails the most important aspects of warfare very precisely. Thank you for taking the time to create it. A slight digression but how do you feel the Cruiser design you shared fares against the Battleships outfitted with Tachyon lance and Neutron Launchers? Is there a late game alternative that utilizes Strike Craft better than this Cruiser design?

Tachyon/neutron ships still reign supreme. Strike craft are only good against corvs and destroyers.
@sephikong83234 жыл бұрын
I think that Battleships with Tachyon + Hangars and the Carrier computer are incredibly powerful. This is probably the most versatile ship I have witnessed in a long time, it destroys fleets no matter if it's made of corvettes, destroyers, cruisers or battleships. It is actually very good and it saves a ton of time to have basically a universal model that works at least fine in most cases and not have to worry too much about your design

Check your ship weapons and shields/armor. Especially early game, "auto best" can be painful, unless you researched in a very balanced way. A similar thing happened to me. What happened was that my ships were 100% lasers, and theirs were all heavily shielded. That, and my ships were all armor, and they also had powerful lasers. I had to manually change everything to Kinetic and shields. After that enemies' ships melted. Late game, VS AI, Autobest will create balanced ships, and AI will be balanced as well, so unless you fuck up horribly, More shit counters less shit.

War is weird in this game. I just had my first war and absolutely crushed him and his stupid ally. I easily destroyed over 100k of their fleet power while taking barely any losses. Occupied half his systems and went on a bombarding spree spreading devastation and destruction everywhere. Despite being under constant pressure, he was still pumping out 15k fleets, and despite getting victory after easy victory he still got me to 76% war exhaustion before he hit 100%. I hit 100% exhaustion shortly after and forced a white peace because somehow I didn't have enough occupation to win the humiliation war victory. Got to keep all the systems I took from him but still, that kind of confused me. I don't understand how I can destroy multiple fleets from both him and his ally, take a shit ton of his systems, destroy his planets, and not humiliate him. Also I want to know how this dude was printing fleets out of nowhere. I know the AI cheats in strategy games but that was ridiculous. It's not like it was a big deal that I didn't get a total victory, as the whole point of the war was just to dab on him because he was getting a bit too strong for my liking, but it still kinda miffed me.

I find the fleetpower of these “fighter-bases” hyperinflated and not at all worth the power they have.
@sephikong83234 жыл бұрын
On the starbases ? Yes, mostly because the rest of their weapon is absolutely garbage (seriously, I have high end weapons so why do my stations use missile 2 and gun 3 !?) But the fighters themselves are good. Try putting a fleet comprised entirely of carrier battleships with the carrier computer and you'll see the enemy fleets and stations melt before they could get sufficiently in range of your ship to damage them. The real problem is that stations cannot be really customised, you can't tell what they should use precisely. If I have built only hangars in it, maybe I don't want them to build bad lasers upon upgrading to a higher tier, I dunno why
@Stefan_Anon4 жыл бұрын
It is inflated, but it is still worth the alloys. A 2.4k station will be able to deal with around 1k enemy fleet fp, which is worth the 300 alloys.
