I just retired, so now I am going to jump headlong into a hobby I’ve enjoyed my entire life. Literally… I’m at the absolute beginning of my journey. Someone recommended this software program, so I came to KZbin and found you. I am on my phone, but momentarily intend to install this program. Once I get a few things situated… I think it will be really cool to go back 100K years and see what sunrise was in my location. You were very clear and direct in this video post. I thank you for that. You were not rambling around the world… Lol anyways I liked your video, so I intend to probably go through all of them. I can’t wait! Thank you Bossman!!!😊

Thanks for an excellent video. I guess the most obviously thing about the sunrise at year -99,999 was it occurs at about 7:15PM in the evening in Texas. Of course, the Julian calendar was probably never designed to be used for such an extended period of time.
@AstroEscape3 жыл бұрын
Hah, you're probably right about the Julian calendar. It's neat to see the changes over long periods of time though. I also like seeing the changes in star patterns, although the thing Stellarium can't account for over 200,000 years is changes in stars in relation to star birth & death.

I started using stellarium recently and it's fantastic. It's also way clearer than the typical telescopes but I wonder if the pictures are realistic because it was mentioned that the pics are 3D

All of the pictures in Stellarium were taken by both amateur and professional astrophotographers, the 3-D part is just an effect added to them.

How do you increase the font size or label an object so that when you zoom out you can still see where it is in relation to the constellation? I've seen many videos that do this but can't seem to find a font increase or label feature. What would you advise? Thank you!
@AstroEscape2 жыл бұрын
Sky and Viewing Options -> DSO tab. Closest thing for what you want is "Use Proportional Hints" when you have DSO's enabled. For constellations if you want to increase the font size for the name of the constellation, same window but in the Starlore tab, you can change the font size and the line sizes of each constellation.
@makaiomessenger2 жыл бұрын
@@AstroEscape Found the tabs, but unfortunately it made no difference when selecting "Use Proportional Hints". All I have is pulsating red target lines but was hoping to get the name, in this case of an asteroid, enlarged so I can zoom out to see the full constellation in relation to the asteroid and still see the name of both the constellation and the asteroid. If you think of any other options I would appreciate it. Thank you so much for your help!

Hi Daylan, I am trying to get back into astro photography, I am currently going over the programs to refresh the memory on how to use them. With Stellarium how do you set the current time on start up? I have found that each time I open Stellarium I have to set the current time each time. I have looked through the user guide and found nothing on that. There are other videos out there so I am going to check them out as well. Cheers Robert Aust,

Hello great video very helpful! I have just got a 10” dob not used it yet and it’s my first! I only have the two eye pieces that came with it. In this video you said never use a Barlow?
@AstroEscape2 жыл бұрын
I meant for astrophotography. If you are doing visual, go ahead and use a Barlow, it effectively doubles the amount of eyepieces you have :) For astrophotography, when used on dim targets, it can make images take way longer than they would have without it. An argument could be made for bright objects like M13, but general consensus is don't use one for imaging.

Why is it impossible to leave full screen in Mac OS? There is no little icon to do this on the bottom left. F11 does not work.

Go to the configuration Window (F2 or the wrench with the Star), the extras tab, and see if the Fullscreen button box is checked. That should give the icon back on the bottom bar.

I found something awesome on Stellarium. I want to record what I am seeing to show others. I have tried a couple of screen recording programs with my HP laptop, but because the Stellarium program takes up the entire screeen, I cannot access the recording buttons and/or the keeping the recording going is difficult. What are you using to record it? THANK YOU!!

So, I am having trouble with Stellarium to help me to identify some objects. For instance, let's use the Monkey Head in the Orion area. When you put your pointer on it, Stellarium doesn't recognize it; meaning, tell me that this is the Monkey's Head. It will tell me the stars, that are there, but not that this is the Monkey's Head. So, where do I have to click to have Stellarium to identify it for me?
