I’ve literally had several of them live in a Car Park of an apartment complex, they can become quite annoying sometimes.

These birds are so beautiful. They look like just ordinary gray birds that were dipped in black and blue paint. Love them so much.

Gorgeous! Jays are some of my favorite birds. I know they can be a nuisance to other birds but they're so fun to watch!

Our resident Steller (a male I think) mimics a screeching cat perfectly. Every time the dog used to hear it he would immediately start barking. Even fooled my cat loving wife, who ran outside the first time to see where the kitty was hiding. Lol. We love feeding the birds and it's a real joy when the jays pay us a visit - they are royalty in our yard and get special treatment. When my wife forgets to leaves snacks for them they fly by her office window and start calling rather obnoxiously until she accommodates them. I've been trying to record him doing the mimic but it is a bit of a challenge. With the gardening season starting I will outside more. They usually stop by when I am working outside and he sometimes makes the sound. If there are other competitors (other jays or crows) nearby then he is more likely to do it - the idea I think is to scare others off. You just got to love corvids.

people anthropomorphize corvid calls as screechy and cacophonous - but it is just their song - and i think it is as beautiful and soothing as any other songbird.

Stellar Jays LOVE peanuts! And they hide them to recover and consume them later. They are very smart and somewhat aggressive with other birds.

Love them. Definitely remind me of blue jays, but I only see them in forests of the high country, whereas blue jays on our tray feeder at home are very common. Interesting how they're similar, yet different.
