If your looking for beetles they tend to fall in swimming pools a lot and 90% of the time they’re already dead and the legs are easily bendible.

Since some insects "wake up" after freezing I do a 30 min freezing time, take the jar a out and place a cotton ball soaked with alcohol to put it in the jar, and return the jar to the freezer. That way you avoid the insect dying slowly, the after freezing wake up, and damage of putting them directly on alcohol because of how much they move when they touch alcohol (sounds cruel but thats how it is)

freezing insects for long enough is painless to them, despite being a long death. it is like dying in your sleep, because they pass out before cold can become painful.

I know that this is an old video but why do people rather want to pin insects than seal them in resin blocks like an artificial amber.
@yourlocalgrubdog3345
@yourlocalgrubdog3345 4 жыл бұрын
Because pinning is a tried and true method used for hundreds of years. Resin is still relitivialy new, and resin can have it's own complications (expesialy if you don't already know how to resin)
@yourlocalgrubdog3345
@yourlocalgrubdog3345 4 жыл бұрын
Oh, and resin can also be fairly expensive :p pinning is cheaper. (Not trying to say using resin is bad. Just that these are why pinning is more common!)
@blooky102
@blooky102 4 жыл бұрын
@@yourlocalgrubdog3345 BTW the bugs i do have in resin still have bright colours except from the praying mantis that is whiteish brown. I personally like resin more because they literally preserve the insect forever.

You can get a piece of Tupperware (plastic container) and put in some foam so the insect stays elevated, then you pour boiling water in the bottom and interchange it for a couple days, and the bug should be back to a more reliable state
