Stencyl Quick Tutorial 5 - All Direction Moving

We look at a special kind of movement in this video - where our character has to be able to move in any direction. It's really useful for car games, and top down games.

This helped a lot, but I was wondering if you could teach us more top down stencyl tutorials as I want to create a few top down pixel games and this was the only tutorial I found that was on top down, I am unsure if the other tutorials could also apply to top down

That's great tutorial, however, what about top down 8 direction movement? Like Up-Right-Left-Down-UpRight-UpLeft-DownRight-DownLeft? I only managed to do the 4 ways direction based on your crockodile tutorial.

how do i make where the car cant turn if the character isnt moving?

Would it be the same blocks for enemies that's not controlled by the player?

Enemy movement is easy to understand, as long as you know why your enemy is moving. So if it's repeated movement, you need to program left / right or up / down movements. You can do this with time, so after a time the enemy will move left, and then after a time it will move right. Or you can do it by position, so IF x of enemy > (some number) Change Direction.

Do you mean you wan the actor to go faster in the game?

@@alexandermoisesbulejequisp5412 This should be quite easy if we think about it correctly. If you watch from about 3:00, you'll see that we talk about using the UP and DOWN key to change the velocity. How we do that is to simply do the "SET VEL TO |VEL| - 2" block. So when you press UP, we -2 to VEL. Remember that VEL is set to 0 when we start the game. Now, if you want to press a button to make the car go even faster, you can simply put in another IF block, and then choose the key you want to press for the boost speed, and then use the same thing we did for the UP key, where you you put a "SET VEL TO |VEL| - X". X would be a number like 1. So, if I understand what you might be doing, you would press up to move the car, and then WHILE you are pressing UP, you press another key and go faster. Does that make sense?
